Americans tend to have a very short memory.

Right now the border invasion is one of the top 3 concerns of the average citizen (cost of groceries/fuel/essentials and cost of housing are up there with the border problem).

If the Biden administration were to correct one or two of these major issues before the end of the summer, the bulk of the average citizens would have forgotten the past 3 years by the time the election comes up.

Throw in another diversion (Look, squirrel!) for people to fixate on and he might actually have a chance to get re-elected.

He can undue it and put back what was undone with the stroke of a pen. Remain in Mexico being one of the biggest deterrents.

Mayorkas worked for HIAS before he became DHS Secretary. The equivalent would be like someone working for the Sinaloa Cartel before being named the Head of the DEA. DHS should never have been established, Border Security should be administered by the states with assistance as needed from the Military.
