View Full Version : C-130 joyride today
Three of them flying probably around 1,000 feet heading south, roughly down Broadway in Boulder but a bit west (closer to the hills). I was driving north on 28th and had a clear view of their approach -- very obvious they were flying low and close enough to probably rattle houses.

Cool- I didn't hear them, but hopefully some pacifistic bliss ninnies soiled their dainties. I am sure the local idiots will blame the Boulder Municipal Airport.
And for you guys out near Buckley the Army Blackhawks are getting some hours in, not much fun in this wind lol

C-130 is a cool ride. Got lucky and given tour of this one last spring. Met some of the crew as well.
From some of the stories I think they are a little shy of sane. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240621/bb743dd8ef579e1db3369cc1058f7428.jpg

They’re even more fun when they have skis.

One of these days I'm gonna stowaway on Hosers plane :)
We fly about 5-6 days a week. And lots of other squadrons come out to fly around the mountains with us.
We will be out doing parade flyovers on the 4th of July. When you see us, be sure to waive with all your fingers.
Hopefully the fires stay calm so we dont have to do any firefighting this year. But we are ready just in case.

The comments in Boulder Nextdoor thread about the flyover is running about 1/3 positive, 1/3 neutral, and 1/3 soiled dainties.

No issue with flyovers from me. But Boulder has an active paragliding site. Recent flyover came close to a few pilots. Those things are hard to see and the soft wing makes them collapse prone from hard bodied plane?s turbulence

https://i.imgur.com/JkWQqJg.jpgHow much runway do I need so you guys can stop in for iced tea or lemonade? Maybe some BBQ ribs or brisket.

We avoid places like that like the plague. Paraglider, hang glider and regular sailplane.

We dont need much. And it doesent even have to be paved. Just a chunk of somewhat straight dirt road.

When I was in Afghanistan working in the JOC we could identify which type of aircraft was up by its call sign. Each platform had a name and then the number identified the specific aircraft.
So if the call sign was "REAPER" we knew it was an AC-130 gunship
Call sign "NIGHTMARE" was an AV-8 Harrier.
I can't remember the others. Anyone know the call signs for A-10s, F-16s, Apaches?

I think the F16s were "viper" and the Apaches were "Gun". Don't remember what the A10s were.

The call signs for the Apaches back in Iraq was Gunslinger.
I enjoy it when the C130s set off car alarms in the neighborhood, wish it would happen more often.

With our new propellers we are much quieter. Kind of a pity really.
