Just talked to the camera man who was parked outside...

my kids school. Couldn't figure out what the officers were doing here when I got back home around 4:30, now I know. Yikes.

Let's see Susy...
In your backpack I've got your paper and pencils, crayons and Elmers glue stick, your lunch and 9mm, and your hand sanitizer.
Did I forget anything?
[Stooge]
It's people this stupid that leads the liberals to believing they're right about knowing whats better for us than we know for ourselves.
Poor kid. What kind of a parent uses their child's backpack to transport firearms?... Obviously a very careless one
What the fuck was the teacher doing snooping through the kids backpack?!

Hell, I built a .44 cal Navy black powder revolver in shop class. We test fired it on the practice football field. Times sure have changed.
Still, that poor kid's parents are dumbasses!

That was probably about the same time we used to Shoot Rabbits and Prairie rats out in the field Behind Rangeview.

Granted, it was a dumb mistake.
But I don't see how they're going to make a charge of child abuse stick.

Child endangerment would not be a problem to make stick, as the child had unguarded access to the weapon. I am only assuming it was loaded.

LIVE REPORTING FROM THE SCENE! (I'll feed you live shots of the live news crew)
Fortunately, I have to go to work today, vacation is over. This time, that is a good thing so I don't have to look at this crap today.
I should turn the sprinkler system on, it over sprays that corner where they are standing...
They had our driveway blocked with their 31 News jeep. Told my wife to be a jerk and make them move it. They were in the middle of their report and the wife had to wave them over to move the jeep. Tee hee... 2nd time 31 news has blocked my driveway, jerks.

Kindergarten is hardcore these days guys. I'm just glad to hear that some poor kid didn't get hurt because of this parent's negligence.

Ditto. I'm a young guy but I remember in history classes in middle school our teacher would take us out to the football feild and we'd be able to fire bean guns, and throw spears, and stuff while we learned about certain battles, etc....
Did ya major or minor in spear catching???LOL
We hunted quail and doves with our coach and our principle.
I majored, HAHA. I remember I was able to get that stupid thing about 40 yards and stick too. That was supposedly very good for a kid my time. Then the teacher threw it and he covered the full 100 yards.
Can you imagine standing in an army hundreds of years ago and having thousands of spears and arrows coming down on you from a 100 yards away and all you're carrying is a 3 foot sword... Man, some of those guys had balls and beliefs.
Men were Men and the enemy were Men too.

Hell my freshman year at Heritage in Littleton I built a copy of the Modena Rifle. Now you have a kindergarten kid that was suspended last year for bringing a Lego kit pistol.
Common sense is sorely lacking in the education system.
But this moron parent needs to have their ass removed for leaving a firearm where a child has unsupervised access.
OT- is that the reporter in the dress in the pic? Gurl gots da junk in da trunk!

We did that too. During Classics lessons our teacher took us all outside and we learned about the Battle of Thermopylae by defending the cricket field from Big School by using the tunnel as a choke point :D

It's their "right" since the student is in "their" classroom. There is no right of expected privacy once you're on school grounds. A Teacher has every "right" to go through your locker if they want too... "If you don't like it, take your kid to a different school." Which I would do, but all (99.99%)schools operate the same way.
Funny how everything now a days is a "right" isn't it?

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Lakewood police, the Mayor, 95% of the CO Democratic party (aka Socialist party), Denver Mayor John Lickmypooper and Dear Leader Oba'Mao shrieked with joy, applauded and then proceeded to heap great praise on the parent of a Colorado kindergartner Wednesday after the child brought a pack of rubbers to school. Our Dear Leader was overheard in a phone call to Speaker 'Wretch' Pelosi stating; "Alas, our party's vision for sexual freedom for the children of America has taken root. We won with first-graders in MA earlier this year and now; under the leadership of our great Comrade Bennett we have a foot-hold in Colorado as well!" Wretch was believed to have responded with; "Oh Mao', I'm so pleased, the only thing that would have been more satisfying would have been the discovery of a gay porn magazine accompanying that pack of rubbers!"
Fortunately, a teacher was violating the child's right to privacy by leveraging the "because we can policy" and discovered the revered "ticklers" in a backpack at Molholm Elementary School on West 9th Avenue in Lakewood. One of the child's parents told police the parent had inadvertently left the rubbers in the child’s backpack. "Well, your absent-mindedness was a stroke of luck, eh!" chimed-in Lickmypooper with a broad smile.
Plans were underway to award the parent with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, given to those who make an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors, but Mao' quickly intervened and said; "Nah...fuck that...give that parent the Medal of Honor. I'm tired of that award being reserved for such a small segment of our population anyway!"

before I left for work, a very irate parent was yelling at the reporter Shaul Turner (i think) and was very pissed that the school hadn't notified of the dangerous situation. They will use the notification system for school meetings, homework reminders etc, but not for when there is a dangerous situation. (idiot) obviously. Wish I could have gotten a picture of this lady, scary.
I talked with the principles this morning, some parents I guess are keeping their kids home and asking if the school is "Safe". Well, yes, it is safe. Situation was delt with and is over. Move along people.
Ask why the teacher was in the backpack. I want to know if it was a legit reason. People keeping their kids home from school must be ill informed about what happened.

Good Grief-talk about mindlock !!!
I know right?
I realize we're talking kindergartners here, who can hardly even wipe their own ass. If people wouldn't forget to ask important questions every time a gun was involved, we'd probably have a lot less stupid gun laws.

Which important questions are you referring to? The why the teacher was in the pack? Not really important. From 9News: "Police say the teacher was cleaning up at the end of the day and found the gun." Putting stuff in the backpack for the 4-YEAR OLD CHILD to take home?
Seriously, does this idiot have so many guns that he can't keep track of them? He says he had put it in the book bag temporarily, but then forgot to remove it.
We are required to get a license for everything: driving, marriage, employment (depending upon job), home improvement, CCW, etc. etc., but the one very important aspect of our lives, the most important one I believe, we don't require a DAMN license to reproduce. We allow any and all idiots to reproduce at will, to influence the next generation positively or negatively and we wonder why our society is becoming so f'ed up.[Rant2]

look at his mugshot. looks like a banger. hopefully his lifestyle catches up with him. problem solved.
I've put my gun into our baby bag a time or two. I was damn certain to take it out though. I guess it's easier to keep track of all your gats when you only have one though....
My grandchildren always pack.
people have been trained to fear guns.
A loaded gun in a backpack is not a dangerous situation. It's not going to jump out and start shooting.
A dangerous situation is what happens if the kid showing the gun off, or starts playing with it and pointing it at people.
If child endangerment is illegal then every single parent everywhere should be prosecuted every time they drive anywhere with their kids in the car.

You seem locked on to "invasion of privacy" concerning the teacher looking into the kid's backpack. I'd be thankful the teacher found the gun and secured it before there was a serious incident either at school or before and after school. We are talking kindergarten age here. [Bang]

Interesting thought you have there...
18-6-401 Child Abuse
(1)(a) A person commits child abuse if such person causes an injury to a child's life or health, or permits a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation that poses a threat of injury to the child's life or health, or engages in a continued pattern of conduct that results in malnourishment, lack of proper care, cruel punishment, mistreatment, or an accumulation of injuries that ulitmately results in the death of a child or serious bodily injury to a child.
How about letting your kid play sports? Football? Hockey?
18-12-108.7 Unlawfully providing or permitting a juvenile to possess a handgun
(1)(a) Any person who intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly provides a handgun with or without remuneration to any person under the age of eighteen years in violation of section 18-12-108.5 or any person who knows of such juvenile's conduct which violates section 18-12-108.5 and fails to make reasonable efforts to prevent such violation commits the crime of unlawfully providing a handgun to a juvenile or permitting a juvenile to possess a handgun.
I don't want you guys to get the wrong idea here. I don't think that the invasion of privacy issue is the most important at all. I take a stance like Blondie, in that a gun in a back pack isn't really a danger and it was totally over blown. It's not even really an invasion of privacy either, because as Bear said, students don't have any rights.
That's just the question I have, because I don't have questions about the other things. I can already tell the parents are dummies.

I've been thinking for a few days that this vegan friend that we have is guilty of child abuse with all her stupid ass restrictions on her kid's diet. I don't know about you guys, but if my lunch was peanut butter jelly, crackers, pretzels, and animal crackers, EVERY SINGLE DAY, I probably wouldn't eat my lunch either.

FYI - I'm hearing that the school will now be searching "all" backpacks - I'm assuming each day.
The principles and staff have done a great job with this whole event. They haven't blown it all out of proportion or anything. Good people.
Makes me sick though to see some of the idiot comments on the news websites about the neighborhood etc. Wonder why people think they need to be negative about things they know nothing about. (not on this forum, reasonable people here usually)
How do you go from this?

And be serious? This is a total knee jerk reaction. Maybe they should just put a 6 month moratorium on Kindergarten until they figure out what went wrong.
Ugh, I just read the follow up article. Why does EVERY gun article ALWAYS say something about the gun's "registration status?" What does it matter?
wow, this stuff blows my mind. stupid mistake on the parents part, hopefully they don't get nailed for child abuse or some stupid bullshit over the deal.
honestly mistakes happen. I went hunting with my dad in elementry ended up at school with a pretty decent sized hunting knife in my backpack that the gym teacher happened to see, all he did was take my backpack, put it in his office and make me come get it after school and walk straight home.
I understand this is a bigger deal being a gun, but either way i feel bad for the parents, hopefully things blow over and everyone can continue on with their lives
I was talking about this with my family as I was driving them to the airport just now and my brother told me that something like this happened in our family once. Apparently one time my uncle left his Ruger .44 magnum in my cousin's back pack after some trip. My cousin was old enough to check his own bag and caught it before it went to school with him though.

I don't believe it's a decision from the school administration, more probably a requirement from the School District. (Jefferson County)
This was not "confirmed", just rumor. I'll know more tomorrow.

Update: no bag searches on friday, think it was just a rumor.
Snooping: Teacher was assisting the student in gathering up the school supplies required by each student to bring. Firearm was discovered at that time when emptying the backpack of said supplies.
Gotcha. i could see that. my kids take a crapload of supplies to their teachers each year.

or how about the .gov stays out of how I raise my kids. . .
"our" parents smoked. . .
"we" rode in the backs of pick ups and station wagons . . .
and "we" turned out ok.
maybe we should have the .gov make a law about kids on swingsets without helmets. If they don't they can charge the parent with child abuse. or all parents with swimming pools should be charged with child abuse. . .
IMHO, part of the problem today is that there are too many laws, and the .gov is too involved with shit they have no business.
I don't smoke, and my kids buckle up, not because "it's the law and I don't want to be charged with something", but because I'm a good parent and it's in the best interest of my children

Ask any EMS/Fire/Rescue tech if Children should be allowed to ride in the back of a truck or without a seatbelt. I Still have nightmares.
It's pretty much a common-sense thing. Don't let Babies play with loaded guns, Your Arms arent seatbelts. Lock up poisons.
This guy was a 'tard for letting his Baby have access to a firearm pure and simple.
I do agree that the Government shouldn't have their nose up my ass every time I turn around. But if Legislation isn't passed and measures arent taken the argument becomes "it aint illegal fer ma kid to ride on da roof o' da car at 75mph... stop oppressin' me. y r u in ma bidness?"
So yeah, the Knee-jerk reactions of the gun-grabbers isn't good, but we also need some tools in place to protect kids from stupid people.
