Clearly he can see that he's not gonna get elected, but he seems determined to stay in until the end- despite the "if a candidate is under 20% he should drop out" talk he spouted. Is he trying to make sure Hick gets the job if he can't have it? Do you think the republican party is encouraging him to stay so they don't look (more) like clowns by not having a candidate? This is driving me crazy...

not that I know anything, but its clear to me he should go on tv telling everyone to vote for Tom. He of course should have done this months ago, but, better late than never.
+1
He is still raising money to pay for his 'campaign HQ' and 'motorcade.' [Rant1]

I would not be the least surprised to find a contributor to Maes through a discreet foundation.
A discreet Democratically backed foundation.
As long as he stays in it takes votes from the Tanc.
Although that may not be much of a factor anymore given the latest poll numbers.
Wonder if the Hick is getting nervous?

I've heard talk on the radio that maes received money from the dems during the primaries but it seems unlikely to me but this whole mess has sure worked to thier favor
As Tom said on TV last night, a vote for anyone other than him at this point is a vote for Hickenlooper. Maes is showing his true colors now, "If I can't have it, nobody can! NYAHNYAHNYAH!"
Maes is punk, I hope life becomes very uncomfortable for him and he has to move out of state.
Here is more information, Ross has been on a few of the talk shows around town.

He's staying in, probably at the insistence of the Republican Party, hoping that he'll get at least 10% of the vote. If he drops out or, (as appears likely) fails to get at least 10% of the vote, the Republican Party gets relegated to "minority party" status.

If Maes grows up and drops out and allows us to not get assigned Hickenlooper and Tancredo wins, can't Tanc just switch parties to Republican so they get their major party status back?
I agree with Circuits's assessment. But if they tank the state and hand the governor's race to the Democrats in a bizarro-world idea of "winning" ballot position in the future, I'd have a hard time supporting them ever.
Don't we justly criticize the Democrats for putting Party over Country? The Republican behavior here is uncomfortably close to that line, perhaps over it.
My $0.02.
If the Republicans were such a shitty party that they become a minority, then fuck them. Hear that Republican party?!
Maybe a common fucking sense party. Nobody has any in government. Stop spending so damn much. Figure out what can be cut 100%. Sorry were getting taxed. All of us. How the fuck else are you paying off trillions of borrowed money. Also id like to see our government officials do jail time or capital punishment for taking money from lobbiest, corporations, or anyone else that sways there vote from what's best for the country and its citizens.

Insert "Tea Party" here.
The only problem is they have no bonafide leadership, organization or agenda. The time is right for a viable 3rd party.
If they could only get their shit together.
Back to the subject on hand- Maes. I saw this morning where he has used 30 percent of his campaign funds for personal finances. He has had to pay back 78K since March of 09.
That is why he won't bow out- this is his job.

Heard about that funds thing this morning as well. Makes me wonder if he is even a real candidate. Seems so weird that he is the choice, and like he was put in place to fail. But if it helps usher in the viability of more "third" parties, I'm all for it. I don't like this tea party stuff, but the thought of another party (e.g. libertarians, tea party, zombies, etc...) actually having a chance is awesome

Hickenpopper was talking yesterday something about how he admired Maes' small business experience and that Tanc was just a life long politician. It's obvious Hick wants Maes to stay in and that Maes is trying to hurt Tanc's chances of winning.

^^^ this. I'm seeing a ton of Tancredo signs both large and small, around my neck of the woods, even some Governor Tancredo signs. Next couple of weeks will be interesting. Sending off my Ballot, and keeping my fingers crossed.

We are watching Maes change from a viable candidate to a LOSER of the first order.
I'm still happy I voted for him in the primary but Oh My God what an idiot and liar.
He is embarassing himself as well as the rest of the State.
How many think he will move when it's all over?
What a Maroon.

Big fucking douche bag. He has no plans for winning. He has is just hanging in there to spite everyone. He will probably move from the state right after the election. Pussy.

He was NEVER a viable candidate. That's what I've been saying since early this summer. You see guys like this show up in politics all the time and you can tell from day one that they just aren't cut out for it. I hate to say it but "regular guys" can't step up from a little old nobody that continually fails at small business to Governor of Colorado. Politics is politics. It's messy, it's dirty and if you don't know what you're doing, how to play the game so to speak, you get eaten up pretty quickly.
The same goes for any industry. You can't one day decide to open up a new car dealership if you've never driven a car before. Sure maybe, MAYBE if you surround yourself with people that know what the hell they are doing you might be able to pull it off. But Dan's campaign was his family, which is a huge no-no in politics in itself.
Something you can't forget either: Dan Maes didn't win the primary, Scott McInnis lost the primary. Jane Norton lost the Senate primary with 5,000 more votes than Maes won with. 20,000 less people voted in the Gov race than they did the Senate race. There was a lot of discontentment and therefore a massive undervote.
So yeah, long story short, Dan was a loser from the get go. There was extraordinary circumstances that nominated him...which was the biggest mistake the Colorado GOP made in a long long time.
This is a huge reason the caucus system needs to go...but that's a different story all together.
He is embarassing himself as well as the rest of the State.

What a Maroon.
I also think he's doing permanent damage to the state Republican Party. It is obvious he has no chance to win. The ONLY impact he can have on this race is to split the non-Hickenlooper vote so that Hickenlooper wins.
I personally will hold that against the Republican party. Choosing party concerns over the welfare of Colorado is disgraceful.
