This is a good thing-contact the listed reps tomorrow or e-mail them tonight.
We really need this type of legislation, especially with Hickyloopy as Gubbernor.

just in time. i could see them declaring a time like this (extreme cold) as a emergency and then they could ban transport of firearms. absolute insanity.

just sent this email:
Colorado State Senator:
I implore you to take a look back into the short history. Go back to hurricane Katrina and the city of New Orleans. A lot of legislation has come about due to the nature of that emergency, the natural disaster, and lack of outside help, the corruption within the front lines of the government down to the police level, and the citizens who were impacted by those faults.
Senate Bill 53 is necessary to gives citizens of Colorado the means to protect themselves during a State of Emergency.
Please do not let outside groups influence your actions, not the Brady campaign, not the NRA. Citizens need the right to protect themselves, it is written into the constitution, recently confirmed by the Supreme Court of the United States and now needs to be further confirmed by your votes.
Take note of the recent elections that the people are starting to listen, starting to demand their words are taken to heart by their elected officials. The people are tired of having their rights taken away, their voices stripped from them and their thoughts and feelings tossed aside. Please take that into consideration when you make your vote.
Please vote to give citizens the right and means to protect themselves in the event of an emergency.
Just emailed them tonight. Egypt has been in state of emergency for the last 30 years so who say's it might be a new fad for social justice. [Luck]

To the Honorable Senators Heath, Bacon, Boyd, Cadman and Grantham,
Thank You for your dedicated service to the State of Colorado and the Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.
I am writing you in regards to Senate Bill 53 and your support of the aforementioned bill. We all hope and pray that the need to protect our families and loved ones during a "State of Emergency" never arises. But we must also be realistic to the fact that if such a "State of Emergency" arises, it may be necessary for the citizens of Colorado to retain the right to protect our families and loved ones. In such a situation emergency services will be stretched to the extent of their resources and I think we all can agree that we will not be able to rely on these services to ensure basic needs to the citizens of Colorado, one of them being our personal safety.
Let's reflect on the reason this legislation was introduced. Look back to Hurricane Katrina and the city of New Orleans. In the aftermath of this disaster the citizens of the affected areas were left with no essential services and to make things worse, many were stripped of the means to protect their lives and property. Law abiding citizens, who had done nothing wrong were subjected to armed law enforcement and military personnel seizing their personal property and leaving them defenseless. This was bad decision making by incompetent/inexperienced officials in a time of crisis and provided no benefit to the citizens but rather put them at a substantially increased risk to their personal safety.
Quite a bit of legislation has come about due to the nature of that emergency, the natural disaster, and lack of outside help, the corruption within the front lines of the government down to the police level, and the citizens who were impacted by those shortcomings.
Senate Bill 53 is a necessary and sensible piece of legislation as it allows the citizens of Colorado to retain the means to protect themselves during a "State of Emergency".
Please do not let outside groups influence your actions, not the Brady campaign, not the NRA. In light of the recent tragic and horrible incident in Tucson, AZ at the hands of a mentally deranged individual the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of this nation are under a renewed and unwarranted assault. "Knee Jerk" reactions to such tragedies are never beneficial and please keep this in mind when casting your vote.
Citizens are entitled to the right to protect themselves, it is written into the United States Constitution and recently confirmed by two landmark decisions by the Supreme Court of the United States (D.C. v Heller and Chicago v McDonald) not to mention the Constitution of Colorado. This is the same Constitution that you as Senators took an oath to uphold.
Please take note of the recent elections that your constituents are starting to listen, starting to pay attention and starting to demand that their voices are taken to heart by their elected officials. The people are tired of having their rights taken away, their voices stripped from them and their thoughts and feelings tossed aside. Please take that into consideration when you make your vote.
I implore you to please vote to give citizens of the State of Colorado the right to retain the means to protect themselves in the event of a "State of Emergency".
Thank You and Respectfully,
