Now I'm waiting on Forsaking Home to come out. It's due out in June.

Just watched The Road on Netflix, kind of a slow movie, but certainly worth watching. Harder for me to read these days, with a 9 month old that hates naps lol.

Was listening to Coast/Coast last night on the way home from double shift and author of One Second After(William Forstchen) was George Noory's guest. Interesting interview and Q & A session.

I'll come back here around September to tell everybody that it finally came out.

That was one of those books that quite literally was not much different from the movie or vice versa.

I heard him on Peter Boyles show a couple years ago too. He's a really good guest.

BTW, I haven't listened to Noory since art bell briefly came back a few months ago. I'll have to tune back in to catch up.

Well you saved me from reading it. The movie , while depressing was terrible.

Halfway through OSA. Started thinking about all the things that would get knocked out in an EMP attack. The one that really gave me that "oh sh*t" feeling was the electronic lock on the gun safe! Any ideas on that one? Refit with mechanical, make friends with a locksmith?

Forstchen wrote that book with the absolute worst possible scenerio. Most of the "experts" don't think a HEMP/solar flare would do nearly that much damage.

With regards to the gun lock, I doubt it'd be affected at all. EMP effects are channeled into systems with long wiring runs (power lines, large antennas, etc). The longest run of wire in that lock is probably less than 1". You'll probably be just fine. If you're really concerned about, maybe consider a non-electric diesel conversion for it. ;)

I actually read this while waiting for my Liberty and had it changed for a cylinder lock for this very reason, affected or not, better safe than sorry.

Yeah, mechanical was the way I went.

Better have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

from my research this is my conclusion too. I would agree that better safe than sorry but for me right now, I like quicker access as I keep everything locked up tight (except one).
Also, even though everything is bolted down, I think with some time and some tools, I can get in easily enough. Time I will have if that scenario plays out, which simple smash and grab thugs don't have when everything is currently copacetic.

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not, but I just finished "77 Days in September" by Ray Gorham and it was a good read - inline with many of the others mentioned in this thread.

I read this book per recommendations in this thread. I pretty much never read books as a source of entertainment but I'd have to say this was really good and well thought out. I might looks for some other books by this author or in the same genre.

I just downloaded it as well, if it reads as fast as one second after I will probably be spending my Sunday at Costco.

It's a quick read. I finished it this afternoon. For $3.99 on kindle it was well worth the price. IMHO, the scenario is very plausible.

Anybody got a PDF of Day of Wrath they wouldn't mind sharing?
Also, a few of you PMd me over the last few months (Jan - now) asking for OSA and I was unable to send it because I didn't bring my laptop on deployment and internet there was to spotty anyway. I'm back now, but I don't have those PMs anymore, so if you want it contact me again.

If you thought that OSA made you contemplate what could be, this does so in an even greater way and for something that is much more difficult to plan for. Great book.

I made a comment on this in another thread in GD.....wish someone would subsidize no-cost distribution of DoW to as broad an audience as possible, and/or make a short film based on it (air it on AMC maybe?)

My kids go to school in Fort Collins. However plausible the book is, the hard left / progressive school systems would never accept the concept that they are vulnerable. Moreover, school administrators would never take the "common sense" precautions to truly protect our children. After all the school shootings in the US school administrators still insist that lockdowns work and refuse to looks at different responses. I have some experience dealing with schools and active shooter policies and responses. The ignorance is boundless when it comes to recognizing potential problem areas. Real world safety and solutions are beyond comprehension of the progressive school administrators.
