I have a couple of silver coins in my small collection and was wondering if anyone had a ballpark idea of about what they are worth. One is a 1922 silver dollar. I believe these were referred to as "peace" dollars since they were made right after WWI. I don't know how coins are graded but it is in very good condition. It does not appear to have a mint mark on it. The second coin in a JFK half dollar from 1964. I believe this was the first year they were made and if I remember the silver content is pretty high. Are these worth more as coins or for their silver content? Thanks in advance!

Silver content of those coins is 90%. On ebay they will sell well above the spot price of silver. Silver price at this time $35.57 a troy oz.
1922 peace dollars on ebay are selling for about $30. Silver dollars are usually .77 of a troy oz
Definitely worth more as coins to collectors than melt value!

oh now I'm just in a bad mood! I just checked these prices and gold is at $1,433!!!!

I had some gold and silver that I sold off about a year ago. I guess that was a bad idea huh? I made a small profit... but nothing like I could have made today!

hindsight is 20-20 tho.....

1922 Peace Dollars are made with .900 silver, .100 copper, net weight .77344 oz silver.

Very Fine-20 - Hair over eye well worn. Some strands over ear well defined. Some eagle feathers on top and outside edge of right wing visible.

Extremely Fine-40 - Hair lines over brow and ear are strong, though slightly worn. Outside wing feathers at right and those at top visible but faint.

About Uncirculated-50 - Slight trace of wear. Most of mint luster present, although marred by contact marks.

There are obviously more, but given your description, it probably fits into one of these and not the uncirculated section.

1964 Kennedy Half Dollar are made with .36169 oz. pure silver.

ive seen some challenge coins sell for big dollars!!
depending on unit and who it was from-like lets say an 82nd div coin from the post commander or the like-originals bring in some good money!
