Can you see anything from where you are at?

nope. I'm about 1 mile east and 3 north of Elizabeth. I'll be driving to Castle Rock in about 30 mins though. Camera will be at the ready.

Hoser, this one would be good for your humongous plane.

Unless we get some big storms soon this spring and summer might be a horror show for the front range. I'm along the foothills and everything it totally dry.

Just drove 86 from Elizabeth to Castle Rock. Lots of smoke, but traffic was not much worse than normal. More horse trailers, but no major backups.

edit:
sounds like the evac area is from Flintwood on the east, 86 on the south, Parker rd (83) on the west, and Hilltop on the north.

Fire sounds like it's south of Bayou Gulch, otherwise there'd most likely be structures already burned.

The crawl on TV just said 8,500 homes evacuated.

Yowieee!

You guys duck and cover down there. I'm really familiar with it having grown up in Ponderosa Park (Northwest of Elizabeth) in the 60s and 70s. Lots of trees out there and with this wind it could get bad. We're about 17 miles South of Kiowa and the air is really smoky here.

Good luck and God bless all of you in the danger zone.

Quite a few stations have gotten the number wrong, it is actually 8,500 people. Either way, quite a few people.

Thank you Dan and yes I am OK, so is the house. I was finally let back in about 30 minutes ago. Was kicked out of the neighborhood around 3 or so as I live on Burning Tree Trail right where the fire started. Rumor has it that it was one of my neighbors kids three or four houses down who started it and that is all I'm going to say about that.
[Rant1]

I was one of the first to be let back in so much catching up with others as to what actually happened needs to be done. Right now I am ready for a BEER!!!

Can still see about a dozen or so small fires about 1500 yards from house glowing!

Thanks Carl and lets pray for no more fires up there or down here! As suspected fire started near 8425 Burning Tree Trail 3 houses down from me (or left of the barn in the first photo). I am the last house on the end before the open space park but here are some picture I tool at around 12:30pm when the fire first started just before we were ordered to leave. The picture of the barn is my next door neighbors bard just to the west and it started two more houses over to the west. Blew mainly north with the 40mph winds we has at the time but when the cold front came in this afternoon it switched around and blew east then back south and south east! Anyway here are some CO-AR15.com exclusive photos!

Holy crap. Good luck down there, it appears as if your neighbor is going to be in some trouble. Just by looking at the pics of course.[Luck]

Hope today brings better weather for the guys and gals on the line. From what I could see on the news yesterday they were working their butts off trying to stop this thing. And that chopper pilot was doing an amazing job. What a performance!

Being an ex-cop I make fun of firefighters often...good-naturedly, of course. But when something like this happens I'm really glad someone chose to do that job.

Glad to hear Kirk, I knew you were out there, but I didn't realize how close. Sounds like your neighbor could use a blanket party [Tooth]

Is that when you wrap the muzzle of your gun in a blanket so no one hears the shot?
