I like the M1 Garand as well. I used to shoot them competitively.
The M1A/M14 is chambered in 7.62 NATO/308 Winchester. The 30-06 round it too long for the M14 action.

yes i already knew the m1a comes in 7.62x51 (.308 win), i was wondering if they made a version in 30.06 ?thought someone here might know something i didint about the m1a .as i dont know squat about them chances are pretty high . but just the same the hunt begins for a B.A.R.

I told my Dad I wanted one and he said you'd think different if you ever got your thumb caught in the action and encouraged me to get an M1a instead.

guess he never mastered the avoidance of garand thumb.

I wonder what the market research would say, I'd certainly be interested in an M1A chambered in 30-06.

I love my Garand as well! Old school cool to say the least.
I took mine over to my folks place and being able to hand it to my dad who is a WWII vet and at 86 years of age he still snapped her to inspection ready like it was yesterday was pretty cool.
He later told me it was like being reunited with an old friend that you had a love/hate relationship with.

You don't know how nicely they can shoot unless you give them the National Match treatment.
After doing it to mine it was like shooting a totally different rifle it was so smooth.

I can imagine German & American soldiers having arguments regarding which caliber had the most "stopping power"...the 8MM or the '06.

But I don't think there were too many arguments about who had the best gun...

A clip?

A CLIP?

Oh, yeah, that's right. Sorry. Just a reflexive reaction, I suppose.

In the late 80's back in the flatlands, I had neighbor who owned a Browning semi auto rifle in 30.06 he took to a smith and had it converted to a box magazine fed. So there must be something similar for the Garand.
You surely are not the first to think of this.
I still have an M1 Garand near the top of my want list.

Beretta made an M1 with a box magazine. It is called the BM59. They command a premium price for real ones. Or you could make a replica.

Keeping it 30.06, there is a conversion for a Garand to box magazine fed at: losokcustomarms.com . Check it out. Kind of pricey though.

yes i know everyone gets hung up on that one but as we all know the m1 garand only uses en-bloc "clips" not "mags "

looked in that conversion very cool but i think ill just keep mine original and just look for that wacky bar or bm-59 . unless i get another garand then ill mod it up .

I think the BM59 was chambered in 7.62x51 NATO. Looks like an M1 receiver with an M14 mag and flash-hider.

There are probably some on GB. I'm guessing, for the price, a guy would be better off buying an M1A. I have no idea how hard BM59 mags would be to get.

The BM59 was 7.62 Nato, not 30-06.
Finding usable mags for a 30-06 is usually limited to BAR mags. The military could not get them to work reliably when they tried in the 1940s and 1950s to modify the M1 to a mag fed rifle. This whole process later developed into the M14.

Not to mention the fact that post WWII studies found that full size rifle chamberings were overkill. Studies found that the majority of engagements occurred at less than 200 yards. No need for the 06 at that type of range not to mention the cost savings to the Pentagon by going to the 308.

+10,000,000

I have had broken bones + infections that hurt less than M1 thumb. In all honesty the most painful thing I have experinced. But I would not think twice about getting one. I want a HR bad.

My Garand is probably the ONLY gun in my pile that I'll never sell. Best rifle ever made (to me).
