Daniel Defense upper 14.5 inch, 1/7 twist, chrome lined, Spikes lower. I think I'll stick with irons on this one, but I'm not sure what do you guys think?

That was not the two attractive females I envisioned when I clicked on the thread title. Total disappointment.

Nice gun though.
A 14.5 incher ain't built to reach out and tickle far away things, so you don't need some fancy high power optic. At CQB range, you point the gun, you don't use your sights to aim precision fire, so you don't need to worry about that. At intermediate distances, irons have been working for hundreds of years and they ain't failed yet.
I'd say irons are just fine.

This is just personal preference, but I really don't like carry handles. I think they're ugly as hell on any gun, but that's besides the point... Any optics you mount on them sit way to high to get a positive cheek weld without a stock with an adj. cheek rest that can be adjusted high enough (and even then why put one so high up over the bore when you can mount it directly to the upper rail), and I've never seen anyone use the carry handle to actually carry the gun. I just don't see the point in their existence.
But hey, its your gun, by all means do whatever you want to it.

That's not gonna make you any friends around here....just sayin'[Coffee]

To the OP, that's a nice rig you got there. I'd put a RD on top if you want something other than the irons. And just shoot the shit out of it[AR15]

I thought maybe you were putting up some pictures from a rock concert. [Coffee]

Nice rifle except for that god awful grip. (You did ask what I thought, right?) What did you do, break one of the "ears" off the lower where the trigger guard pin goes?

Please forgive my critique of your rifle. Aside from what I feel is one of the ugliest grips ever made it really is a good looking rifle. [Awesom]

Not trying to derail your thread, but I put together my idea of a "keep it simple" carbine and decided that since it was not going to have optics that an A2 upper was the way to go. Very happy with my decision.

Agreed a KISS needs to be A1-A2 sights that can't get loose or broken off and a fixed stock-simple and bullet-proof. I don't like adjustable stocks on a KISS. Don't get me wrong I like adjustable stocks and optics on a CQB.. just not a KISS

Always wanted a "dissipator" but I just keep talking myself out of it. [Coffee]

Dissipators are IMHO the best KISS available.
Long site radius for precision shooting without optics. Long handguards for more options when shooting in "strange" positions. Carbine length for mobility.

I did remove the A2 butt stock and have replaced it with a short "entry" style butt stock. (picture a A2 butt stock the same length as a collapsed M4 stock)

The carry handle (fixed, not detachable) actually reinforces/stiffens the upper receiver, like a bridge truss. I would add a firmly tightened GG&G 'Scout Rail' to that flat-top upper (to get back some of the lost rigidity) and lose the AFG. Other than that, it looks good to go - Daniel Defense makes good stuff. Is that rear sight the DD 1.5 'fixed'?

The A-1 (or 'C-7') type upper is probably the best way to go on a true KISS carbine, but finding one with proper feed ramps is a bit difficult.

For what it might be worth, mid-length gas is best for 16" barrels; the carbine gas set-up was designed for 11'-12" barrels.
