View Full Version : factory pistol boxes
Is it just me or does it seem like the newer the pistol, the lager the case.
In the last year I've been looking at a variety of new and used pistols and bought a few of each. One thing I noticed was that it seems like pistols from the '80's-90's have small, simple plastic cases while the newer models have giant plastic boxes; although, cz-pistols come with small boxes.
The Springfield XDm comes with a giant case much bigger than needed to hold all the accessories.
I am wondering if gun companies are using the boxes as part of a marketing plan, look, a nice big box, so there must be something great inside.
Dude... you have too much free time on your hands. [Coffee]

My M&P came in the standard blue S&W box that is just big enough for the gun and mags. My friend Marshall’s XD has a huge box though and he has no real use for it.

My M&P came in a box the size of an Ultra Deluxe Caboodle. A gym sock or a Subway wrapper would have been fine with me.

I had a 1911 Style Llama, so basically a full sized 1911, from 1990 I believe (traded it to alxone) and the box it came in BARELY fit the gun. It was a tight squeeze, but yes, my xd .45 has a HUGE box, which I like, because I can cut the foam to fit extra mags, extensions, lights, etc...
But it is HUGE. That's for sure.
I almost have to sit on the case to get it to close with all the stuff my Glock came with...

Owner's manuals got larger, and they want to fit them into pistol boxes. :D

Just put more loaded mags in it! Makes it look smaller when you open it!! And you can shoot more! [Tooth]

They need more space for that extra strength lock! Picked up a Ruger Blackhawk the other day and the lock took up almost as much space in the box as the gun.

Recently, my dad shipped me an old S&W 422 pistol in an early 90's Glock pistol case. I think I now know what inspired the "Tupperware" slang name for Glock pistols beside being partially made of plastic. The Glock case is a plastic box with a snap on lid about the size of a large Tupperware sandwich box. I think the original case for the 422 was a cardboard box.
