I don't mind the shells but it would be nice to switch to a left handed upper because of the smoke and stink one of these days.

There are probably more lefties on here that do but they just havent posted.
It doesnt bother me too much. The thing that bothers me the most is all the powder burns you get on your face from it. Specially when it is cold out side and your face is cold then you take a shot and that hot powder hits your face. That sucks!

I was thinking of getting a left handed upper but now I am thinking not. If I buy another rifle it will probably be right handed as I am guessing not a lot of manufactures make left handed versions of thier rifles.
Might as well get used to it. Or do I have that wrong?
Not totally wrong, but at least DPMS and Rock River are making obvious marketing pushes for their lefty AR's. There isn't much of a reason why if you're a lefty, that you shouldn't be able to enjoy the same basic safty that the righty's do.
IIRC, Stag Arms sells a dedicated Lefty

Yes Stag arms is the best design I have seen of the lefties so far. They are a true reproduction of the right handed model rather than DPMS just put a cut out on the left side of the reciever and left everything else on the right side. Unless they have changed them.

I'm not a left eye dominant, but I feel for ya anyway (Does this mean I'm a closet liberal? )
I'm really a fan of Stag products except for the hunting logo.

I would rather have a Stag. You should see the snake on mine.

I shoot lefty in Service Rifle. I'm left eye dominant, and I shoot pistols right handed.
I've adapted, when I started out, I had to wear a ball cap to keep the hot brass from bouncing off of my forehead.
I don't really notice it now...
I'm a true lefty and the only time I use a stag left hand upper is when I'm shooting suppressed.
thanks,

I'm left-handed and left-eye dominant, but I shoot right-handed because that's the way I learned to do it.

Being a true lefty I bought a complete Stagg 2L because when I was looking for a rifle and realized that I was going have to spend around a $1000 I decided that I wanted something that was fitted to me rather than having to adapt to it.
My experience was, finding anything left handed is almost as hard as finding cheap ammo.
I have only had it out once (60- 70) rounds because of the G## D#### snow, but it preformed flawlessly and am looking forward keeping this ammo-hog fed.
I agree the hunting logo dosn't fit the image but I can't see it when I look down the sights.

I’m left eye dominant and was thinking of a true left handed AR but is it true that I would lose the availably of most AR parts out there.

holy old thread, Batman!
The only argument I have heard to contradict this is that if you're ever in a situation where only right-handed rifles are available, you'll be at a disadvantage... not a strong argument- since chances are what ever is available wouldn't be familiar, anyway..
I'm left eye dominant, but right handed- I learned to shoot rifle left handed, but when I started shooting Pistol for the first time a few years ago, I tried both hands, and found that any eye dominance advantage is offset by hand dominance, and couldn't detect any advantage based on which hand, so I started shooting pistol with both hands.. and with a shotgun it's close..
I'm need to try shooting right handed with my rifles, and see what the difference is now... but I don't find it objectionable to shoot left handed, except with bolt rifles... [Bang] I won't buy another right-handed bolt rifle unless I can learn to shoot them right-handed...
I want to get a varmint upper, and have thought of getting a LH Stag for the first time... I currently don't own a single left-handed rifle- just ambi pistols...

I actually shot righty most of my life but due to an eye injury my left eye became my dominant eye. I've found it hasn't affected my shooting handguns that much but it had a huge effect on my long gun shooting and since I like to hit what I'm aiming at I retrained myself to shoot lefty. Most of my rifles are standard righties but my AR purchases in the last few years have been Stag lefties since they make them. Quality guns and great warranty.
Thanks for all the info guys.

I am right handed but have shot rifles left handed all my life.
And I am so used to shooting a right handed AR that when I tried a left handed one it felt totally weird. Also none of the controls were where they were
supposed to be. I guess after retraining myself and a lot of practice I could get used to everything being backwards on a lefty AR.
I got a right-handed Sabre, no problems shooting it. [AR15]
Southpaw raising hand. [Viking]
I shoot righty ARs with no problem. I added an ambi thumb safety but still use the right hand side most of the time. The only thing I would like to see is an ambi mag release.

I don't see much point in the lefty guns. I'll get a little excess lube blown off onto my glasses but that's about it. If something goes down on my gun I can easily get a high quality replacement. The AR, as is, is a pretty lefty friendly setup anyway.

I do JMHO. [Coffee]
I'm right handed, and shoot everything left handed due to eye dominance. I bought a couple lefty bolt guns in the last couple years and hate shooting them. I do have a left handed Rem 1187 for trap that's works well for me.
I'm careful what guns I choose to shoot, and all the handguns I shoot regularly, 1911s, Glocks, Buckmarks, and SAA Colts all run better for me lefty. Garands are a bit of a pita, but I deal with it ok, and I've never seen the op rod cycle back at my face. Righty bolt guns are no problem, I guess I'm just used to them.
I started shooting ARs in boot camp in '82 and they were giving us those stupid plastic brass deflectors, which were supposed to keep brass from hitting us in the face. I've never got a piece of brass in the face, civilian or military, the worst I've experienced is an occasional piece down the sleeve of my BDUs since the army found it necessary to have us roll our sleeves down on the range.
As far as a lefty AR, I've thought about it but dismiissed the idea, figuring it would take me the rest of my life to relearn to shoot it. I have an ambi thumb safety that I really like. Mag release I work with my right thumb, and I very rarely use the forward assist.
I'll shut up now. I guess I took the long way around the barn.

I shoot left handed with a right hand lower, never really bothered me. In the Army I remember the DI figured I would get powder burns and we took some preventative measures at first but it never happened. Tens of thousands of rounds later, still no issues.

I'm a lefty and it was an issue when I was in the Army back in the 80's with the A1 and the first A2's, but when they added the brass deflector "nub" to it, I haven't had a problem since with any that have been issued to me through the Army or my own personal ones.
The added bonus of being a lefty and using a righty is that you can see into the chamber through the ejection port and see immediately if you have an issue or are in lock back and can remedy the issue much faster than a righty, who has to remove the weapon from their shoulder and transition it to look at the chamber.
My $.02!
I shoot left handed too; I have no issues except that it costs a little more to buy a gun that caters to left handed shooters. So all my guns are right handed, one of these days I will stop being a cheap ass and buy one that is specific for the left handed shooter.
All my guns are right handed except for my Savage 10. Cost the same as a righty although not as many options for barrels. No problems yet.

I've caught LOTS of brass in the face or down my shirt so my second AR is a Stag Lefty.
My first AR is an old Colt righty with barely anything to help move the bras away from the shooter. No fun there.
THe only other lefty firearm I've been able to buy is a left-hand bolt Ruger M77 MkII in .30-06. This is my hunting rifle. I'd love to get a nice stainless with a light synthetic stock in a left-handed bolt for a big game rifle but I can neither find one nor do I think I could afford it if I did find one.

Full on lefty here too but I shoot ARs right. My experience and input would mirror OneGuy67's. I was trained via tax payer dollars on A1, A2, and eventually bought my own ARs. The controls are all set up fine for lefty use on the right-handed models except for the foward assist which requires either handed shooter to remove the rifle from the shoulder to use effectively. I wouldn't shoot an AR without glasses on due to gas and carbon blowback but it is fairly minor anyway and the advantage of being able to actually see where the carrier is at any time is a big advantage under stress should a malfunction occur. Granted stress for me these days is making it home for dinner in time! I'm currently shooting a Bushmaster XM15 .223/5.56 and the shells kick far up and right after making slight contact with the deflector "nub" and the gas discharge is a non-issue entirely (but this changes rifle to rifle, manufacturer to manufacturer). Standard righty parts will always be more widely available and generally cheaper. I have nothing bad to say about the lefty ARs and have shot a couple but my training, reflexes, and habits are all right on this platform and I have no reason to change that. If it ain't broke...
Cheers
