View Full Version : Happily Married!?!?!?!
So at the tender age of 39 I decide it is time to get married ( my first time ) Cool! Well, I then decide I want a little one ( my first one is on the way ) Cool! But I am troubled. I notice that the "little" things I enjoyed as a single dude are falling by the wayside! Lets see......gun forums, internet porn, guns, beer (this one hurts) xbox, ammo, football, self inflicted dutch oven, Ballistol, senselessly eating anything and whenever just to name a few. So I ask you fellow gun enthusiasts.......am I happily married? [Tooth]

Think your missing them things now wait till the little one pops out, in my case the little one proved to be far more of a gratifying experience then those things combined.

the only way we can give you a true answer is if you post a photo of your wife pre-prego and in a bikini.

In my case, "happily married" is a cruel oxymoron.
Well you are married that's for sure! Things change people change but talking and working through things are what keeps couples together for the most part. Better enjoy some time with your wife now because a baby changes everything

Don't worry about all that right now, enjoy what you have, especially the kid.
In about another 15 years or so when the sex stops you can start riding motorcycles again and take more frequent trips to the range, so don't worry.
And what do you mean about giving up the beer? Shame on you! Beer will help keep you happy so don't worry.

Happy or not, I will do the math for you. This is based on a "best case scenario" so it could vary. It also doesn't factor in anything like having a second child or a nasty divorce either.
39 years old and first child on the way. That means at least 18 years of putting everyone else first. Which means you will be about 57 years old when the kid graduates and you can start having a little spare time (and money) to do the things you want to do. Since the average life expectancy of an adult male in the United States is about 77 years, you should have about 15 years to enjoy the things you would like to do. (I know 77-57=20, but I figured the last five years of your life would probably be spent in poor physical health and you might not be able to do everything you want)
By the way, welcome to married life! [Beer]

I am with you BP I would not be able to tie my shoes without my wife, not really but you get what I mean she is deffinitly the best thing that has ever happened to me. She is a very good mother and wife, I could deal with less nagging but it is a small price to pay for having such a good women. We have been married for 6 years. 28 years is impressive, not very many people now days stay together like that.
I'm 45, married 21 years, and I have a 3 yr old. We both own businesses. My time is not my own.
However, my daughter is still growing up too fast, and I'm enjoying almost every moment of being "Daddy". In just two years, she'll start school, and I guaran-damn-tee you I'll cry.
I was in a stupor of selfish ambition and fulfillment until I had a child. I now live for someone else and am fulfilled like never before. Go forth and enjoy.

The grass is always greener, you think you were happy before because you can't remember all the details, you were a bit lonely and you were missing something, trust me you just dont remember. Piece of advice, you can't be a good father while the tvs on, best case it will shorten your temper.

A new study was released this week showing the AVERAGE child costs $240,000 from age 0-18. Keep in mind that this does not include the cost or college.

(Me - 38 yrs) Lets see...I have been happily married for 8 years and we we have been together for 14 yrs:
gun forums - yes
internet porn - of course your now married!
guns - she is not a fan but yes
beer - a 12 pack in the fridge as we speak
(this one hurts) xbox - I was a PS3 guy, played when my wife and kids went to bed, but when my daughter (then 5) said "this is all you do", I sold it, that was her perception even though I only played when everyone was in bed.
ammo - yes
football - this was tough early but now she is in fantasy fooball with me so it's a joint effort.
self inflicted dutch oven - actually last night (LOL)
Ballistol - don't have it
Senselessly eating anything and whenever - I have become a bit more healthy since married, especially since the metabolizism is much slower from the college days.
So I ask you fellow gun enthusiasts.......am I happily married?
Yes, it's called compromise...and when I say compromise I mean whatever she says goes (j/k). It's doesn't all happen in the first few years. Congrats on the marriage and new family!
Not married, no rush to do so... but from what my friends say- find common ground. One of my very good buddies is 34 been married for 14 years, been with her since Sophomore year of high school, have two kids aged 15 and 10, and they all go shooting, video gaming, and to movies multiple nights a week (well movies usually fridays, and shooting on the weekends- but games 2-3 nights a week- they're hooked on NHL 2011). He is very happily married and his wife was diagnosed with (no joke here) acute nymphomania, so after the kid-o's go to bed it's sexy time! I can't make this shit up, she wants it at least 3x a day. He's perhaps the happiest man I know. I just wish she had a twin sister because she certainly is one of the best mom's I know, person and looks.

Jason Boland wrote a song about the same thing:
"I wanna rich young dumb nymphomaniac
To drive me around in her cadillac
If she's not down on her knees
She will be flat on her back
I wanna rich young dumb nymphomaniac
We'll make her three feet tall
And stand about to here
With a flat spot on her head
So I can rest my beer"

These two nailed it.
I've been with my lady for two and a half years now. We've got our Nugget and while life could be better, I couldn't imagine it without either of them.
I hardly drink anymore. I don't go out. I don't waste money on stupid shit. They've done more to improve me as a person then all the crap I did in the years prior.
