View Full Version : Guts turned inside out

Ever live in a foreign country and eat some shit that makes you feel like your guts are being pulled inside out. You run to the crapper every 5 mins to have a combination of water and chunks of your twisted up pulled around guts exploded out of you. Even touching your stomach hurts. Well that is where I am right now. Going home in 5 days and can't wait to get the demons out of my stomach. It might actually be Demons and Gremlins having a war down there. It all started because the Demons liked m14's and Gremlins like AR15's. I really hope the Boogie man doesn't show up with a AK and RPG. That will really suck.

First rule- don't eat shit. If you don't know what it is you are consuming, ask. If you don't have cast iron guts, stay away from the unfamiliar. Second rule make sure its cooked. All the way. Spent many moons in sub-saharan africa without too much distress.
Third rule- Pepto-bismol- tactical, imodium-strategic, ciproflaxin- nuclear. You need to carry these meds with you in third and fourth world countries.
Fourth rule- boil and purify water, if you are not sure of the source.

Here endth the lesson

As Bobby already stated...shit happens!!

Sometimes rules #1 and #2 don't apply. This is not my first or second rodeo in a foreing country.

What doesn't kill you
only makes you stronger

of course finding a roll of TP that is soft enough to tide you over is never on(in) hand

I would trade my Colt LE6950 with Nightforce scope for a roll of quilted northern right now. The only thing I have might as well be called two ply sand paper

A decade or so ago when I was doing a deployment to the Gulf, we used to refer to it as 'Blackwater Disease'; as in - black water coming out of your backside. Horrible feeling. Last time I ever ate a 'schwarma' from a street vendor.

I did a brief stint in Libya back in '81, working in the oil fields way out in the desert. I got the screaming shits from something there, probably the water. Food wasn't the greatest either.

Except for a debilitating stomach bug that you can't crap out- that'll make you weak forever!

I remember asking what I was eating wrapped in foot bread in Afghanistan, some things just don't translate to English. Ate it anyway and no issues, but dammit all to hell if I got sick from Indians cooking American cuisine, but felt fine after eating curry.

Just woke up sweating my balls off. I had a dream that I was that guy in Space Balls the movie, at the diner. You know the one that I am talking about. He is complaining about his stomach hurting then an alien pops out of it. That is pretty much how I am feeling right now.

Give a severe case of malaria a try and the above post will resemble pleasant memories.

When I did a study abroad program in South Korea, on the first night we were there, we decided to go explore the city. We wound up in a brightly-lit, mall-type area with lots of little sidewalk restaurants. We chose one, pointed at the menu, and said, "we'd like to try That." We had a few shots of soju and got our food. It tasted a bit funny, but the sauce was good. I ate a few bites because I was hungry as hell and needed nourishment. Everyone else tried a little and didn't eat much after that. Finally I couldn't eat anymore. We found out the next day that it was pig intestine. I didn't vomit or anything, but to this day, I bet $1 million I could smell it half a mile away. I could never eat that stuff again. No way in hell.

Maybe you have Lysteria from those Colorado cantaloupes.

I had the same thought, after reading some of the symptoms. Been to the doc, I hope?

bobbyfairbanks

Not in the states, so not Lysteria. It has abated and I am feeling well enough to work out. I am glad that is over. I pretty much lived in my room for 2 and a half days.

Irving

You've been gone for more than a month as well right? I didn't think you were in the States, but wasn't sure. The reason this Lysteria is such big news (besides the fact that it has already killed 13 people, who then sued) is that it has one of the longest incubation periods of this kind of thing, so you won't get symptoms for as long as a month afterward.
