Caught him last night on Leno. 40 years of executive experience, his 999 plan makes some sense to my simple brain.
Seems like a straight shooter.
But aside from that I dont know much of him.
I do feel that he has one big huge hurdle in front of him:
His ethnicity.
The current resident of the WH has so screwed the pooch I dont think an actual black man stands a chance.
Sad-racism was slowly dying a quite death until BO and his minions stirred the pot.
Whats your thoughts on Caine?
PS- I know I brought up the race issue and we can discuss it freely but the second this turns into a racial slamfest I will have this closed.

The problem with 9-9-9 is that it will rapidly become 27-27-27
I think we've seen that before.
ok, on the note that this question was asked.
I just realized last week when I saw a picture (don't have TV) that Jon Embree (head coach of the CU buffalo's) is black. I didn't know and I didn't care (& hell I was in school when he was playing)
Besides some truly liberal victim mongers, I don't think most people really care.
Best man for the job, whatever that is.
I don't see it as a big issue.
I wish he would have been in the highlights five years ago. Maybe he would be President and our economy would be for the better instead of blowing trillions and trillions. He indeed has a huge hurdle to overcome with his race, but I would probably vote for him.

Not trying to be a dick bert, but why would you assume (to the point of "warning" us) that your fellow coar15ers would turn a simple discussion about caine into a "racial slam fest"?
Maybe I haven't been here long enough to see all these racists exposed. (many of whom are customers, right?)

Because it has happened before sad to say. Now with the formalities out of the way.
I like Cain. I have seen the videos but want a chance to see him in person. There are 4-5 candidates that I like parts of. I do not think some are viable to the American public as a whole.
I am still in a wait and see and wanting more info before I pick. I do think one needs to take a good long hard look this time and not just listen to the talking heads and there dirty laundry at 5pm. [Coffee]

Your not being a dick at all Chad, I just didn't want to see it take a possible ugly turn. It taking that turn would be implied on some other forums and perhaps I overlooked the fact that we have a great group of guys here.
Maybe I was wrong for even mentioning the fact and or my wording was incorrect.
I just was trying to illustrate that it may end up working against him. Unfortunately there are those that will only see the color of a persons skin and not the merits of the man.
As far as the customer comment what they feel is what they feel. All of my customers are great regardless of what their personal views are and I am grateful to have them.
I done stepped in the BooBoo now huh?

Oh no. hehe... No booboo at all.. Thanks for the clarification. I understand fully how on most forums you couldn't even bring up race with out it turning ugly. Thanks for not slamming me! Haha.. [Beer] [Beer]
And I do agree that bo getting elected and failing probably has hurt the advancement of minorities in major national politics... It was my same problem when ge got the job. There were even other minority candidates better suited, but he was hip at the time.
If the election was Tuesday I would vote for Cain. If Chris Christie is proded into the race I would vote for him over Cain.
I'm still holding out for Morgan Freeman...[Coffee]
So far from what I've seen I like what Caine has to say. I hope he can get enough people to listen and support him.

If Cain was president then it wouldn't be such a joke having a black president cause Cain is actually competant.

The thing about Cain that I like is that he is a humble man. He would put the right people in his cabinet to get the job done. If he gets the nod, I would have no problem voting for him. He seems to have the least amount of ghosts in his closet.

I like the guy. The last thing I want is the guy or gal that the establishment wants. The more the party plugs someone the less willing I am to want that person as my public servant.

I am a wait and see person too, IIRC people have until October 31, 2011 to declare their candidacy so there may be more to add to the mix.
I like Herman Cain, I like a couple of others too. I just hope the GOP doesn't put up another RINO, I want to vote GOP this time but if they run a RINO I'll go my own way.
I also like Herman Caine. Hopefully he has a legitimate shot as the next president.
Personally, I think Cain, Newt, or Paul would be a great Vice President.

I like how he is actually stating some kind of plan, instead of just saying "I'm gonna fix the economy!" I also like how, when asked about some social issues, he said that jobs and the economy are more important.
I don't like his stances on abortion and gay marriage, but I appreciate that he knows there are bigger fish to fry.
But because of the social side of things, I wouldn't vote for him. But I think he's decent.
I still think Carl Weathers should run though; he's the right black guy for the job IMO

If I had to vote today, I think I would go with Herman Cain for a couple of reasons:
-He offers solutions consistent with the constitution and rule of law
-His executive experience (although not a prerequisite IMO, it does help)
-He is positive, focuses on what can be done to fix the situation instead of focusing on how bad the situation is and who caused it
-He has common sense
-He is 50% more black than Obama [Tooth]
As far as his 9-9-9 turning in to 27-27-27, there are ways to avoid this.
To avoid the 999 turning into the 27-27-27, the bill could say that in order to raise the rate, 2/3 of both houses and 3/4 of the states must concur, just like a constitutional amendment. Problem solved.
The 999 plan is a stepping stone to get rid of the income tax and establish a consumption tax. In the meantime, you pay a 9% tax on your income minus charitable deductions and a 9% national sales tax (I would assume on only new goods at the point of retail, but not sure). Businesseses pay a 9% tax on income minus investments, dividends paid, and business to business purchases. Ends the payroll tax, capital gains tax, death tax, and double taxation on dividends.
The ultimate goal is the implementation of the Fair Tax, and nothing else.
I personally like the 999 plan for the most part. Like most people, I'm a liitle apprehensive about instituting a new tax before getting rid of the old one, but with the amendment like requirements to change the rate, I would be fine with it.

I've spent some time now looking over the 9-9-9 Plan (http://www.hermancain.com/999plan) proposed by Herman Cain. I'm no economist but it sure makes a lot of sense to me.
I was initially a little skeptical of the guy because I knew so little about him. But the more I learn and the more I hear him, the more I like him.
He genuinely appears to be a man of action and a man with a plan. That can't be said about anyone else. No one else has come forward with a comprehensive economic recovery plan. Herman Cain has.
I like him and I'll be listening closely to him in the future.

Well how about a little help? What, exactly, did he say?
I found this:
“African Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view.
I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it’s just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple.”
But I have to say, his stock went up with me after reading that because I believe it's true.
He was mad that that the Perry family had a hunting lodge called "******head" and they didnt change the name of it until the early 80's. And people call this "pulling the race card."

rick perry's family leased some land for hunting that was called "******head"
in 1981 when he began leasing the land, perry's father painted over the sign.
cain said
"Since Gov. Perry has been going there for years to hunt, I think that it shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and renaming the place," Cain, a businessman, told ABC television's "This Week."
"Yes, it was painted over," he said. "But how long ago was it painted over? So I'm still saying that it is a sign of insensitivity."

some locals still know the area by the same name.
so it was covered over 25+ years ago, but without the requisite mea culpas and ass kissing so it doesn't count.
political correctness in relation to the word ****** is really one of my pet peeves. as long as kanye west and jayZ make millions saying it, and millions of black people all across the country say it every day, I will not edit it from my vocabulary simply to satisfy some idea of decorum or political correctness.
Please note: I don't use the word. not to swear, nor as a name for black people. but when it's the topic of discussion, as it is here, I REFUSE to edit my speech on the grounds of "correctness"
if it were such a bad word to say, then black people would stop saying it.

I would look forward to that VERY much.
And I will agree he does have a solid background.
Had GF pizza a couple times-Meh-typical Domino-Blackjack etc type.
As far as Perrys hunting camps name I kinda think it has been way overblown just like the "Tar Baby" comment of Lamborns. "******head" has long been used as a term to describe rocks in a farmers field. Non PC, yes and entirely inappropriate this day and age. But as far as a painting on a rock from who knows when.............
Not that I am a particular fan of Perry-he strikes me as a reincarnate of Bush.

13.) Alan Greenspan² (August 11, 1987 - January 31, 2006)
14.) Ben S. Bernanke (February 1, 2006 - )
He is not on that list.
He was Deputy Chairman of a Federal Reserve Bank (Kansas City) from 1992 to 1994.

I would argue his inside knowledge of the Federal Reserve system would actually help his understanding of what he has to deal with in helping the economy.

I've heard Cain's radio show a few times years back and I know he's good friends with Neil Boortz (helped write the Fair Tax book). He's definitely a straight shooter and fairly libertarian.
The social issues don't bother me because I don't think he'll push those. Abortion is a dead issue (pardon the pun) and we're just deciding what society will accept at this point. Gay marriage is almost done and I don't think anyone will be able to reel that back in.

Besides this one idea for restructuring our tax base (which I could have come up with), what else does Herman Cain have to offer? I'm not saying this in the tone that I don't think he has anything else to offer, I genuinely don't know. I don't want this to be another Obama, where everyone runs out and votes for a guy just because he is the ONLY one with a slightly different view, just like people voted for Obama because he was the first black president. Could bite everyone in the ass.
Vice President to who?
I still haven't yet to decide.
THose 3 I mentioned sounds awsome, if they can push/pass those ideas/bills to divided congress&senate.
