This situation is full of FAIL.
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/227222/20111007/saudi-arabian-man-american-eagle-flight-cabin-door-disruption.htm
20-year-old Abdulaziz Mubarak Alshammari reportedly strolled back and forth down the plane, acting erratically, before he began tugging on the locked cabin door.
...
Investigators photocopied a note Alshammari wrote in Arabic while on the plane, but he was not charged.
...
"He tried [to open the door] twice," Bailey told WISH TV. "I just threw down my stuff and jumped out of my seat and ran to the door. I pulled him by the arm and tried to get him behind me.
...
When he asked Alshammari if he was looking for the bathroom, the man he shook his head.
Though Alshammari claimed to be a student at the University of Indianapolis, the university had no records of him.
...
Police contacted The Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center and the FBI Terrorist Screening Center to run checks. When records indicated that Alshammari wasn't on any watch list, he was freed and no charges were filed.
...
According to police reports, "TSA would not respond to the scene."
My thoughts...
1. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!!????
2. He tries to open the cabin door... claims to attend a university that has no record of him... hardly speaks any English... flew in from Saudi Arabia... AND THEY'RE LETTING HIM OFF THE HOOK!? WTF!?
3. Upon seeing a hajji writing stuff in Arabic, nervously pacing up and down the aisle, then attempting to open the cabin door mid-flight, only ONE passenger acted... and all he did was grab the hajji by the arm! WTF!?
4. TSA refused to investigate... what, were they too busy with their pornoscanners? WTF!?
Now its not like he'd actually have accomplished anything (there's no way he could have opened the door mid-flight... worst he could have managed would be to break the pressure seal and cause the sensors to go off and breathing masks to pop down... not fun, but not going to effect the flight), but I seriously hope that I speak for everyone here when I say that if I were on an airliner and a uh... young man of middle eastern decent... was acting in the manner that he did, the only question would be what's the most effective way to take him down.
they'll let him lose and watch him to see if he leads them to more jihadis.
I hope.
if I'm on a flight and and if anyone tries to open the cabin door, I will remove their ability to use their arms.

That's a good idea. They should try something like that with guns. Maybe allow Mexican cartel members to buy them and the feds can then follow the guns across the border. It'll lead them right to the bad guys.

I see where you're going with that... but guns are inanimate objects. Guns don't communicate with each other, leave trails with most everything they do, associate with possible more evil looking guns, and other things we can glean information from.
To overlook the benefits of letting a suspect go believing he's "free" is not very smart. Then again, given his chosen method of attempting to down an airliner, he doesn't seem like the type that would have bigger fish to lead us to.

you should send that to the ATF and eric holder. sounds like a hell of an idea. nothing at all bad could happen as a result![ROFL1]

My sarcasm detector is broke tonight apparently.
What would they arrest him or hold him for exactly?

What would they arrest him or hold him for exactly?
Pretty sure disrupting (or attempting to do so) a commercial flight is a federal offense...

PATRIOT act gives them lots and lots of leeway.

Yeah there's always that too. Wouldn't be surprised if they could send him to GTMO for "further questioning" based on what happened.
ONE passenger stands up and asks him if he needs help and he's disrupting a flight? Little old ladies must be disrupting the doorway at the store and my office all the time.

Are those little old ladies trying to rip open the door of a pressurized box full of people flying through the air?
Disrupting the flight... not disrupting a passenger on the flight. He obviously intended to do harm to the people on that plane.
That one passenger ran up to him, grabbed him by the arm, and pulled him away from the door... where did you get that he was asking if he needs help?

You new here? Flights have been escorted down on count of somebody spending too much time in the head.

Point of clarification, TSA screens people, they do not detain people and they have a very limited investigation capacity. Many things can be prosecuted as federal crimes, however, different federal districts, i.e. New York or Indiana may have very different thresholds for what that US Attorney's Office will take for prosecution. Most federal crimes fall under the jurisdiction of the FBI. TSA may ask the FBI for assistance, but you can be reasonably assured the FBI will not ask TSA for assistance.
As with any news story, take it with a grain of salt. Being from Saudi Arabia does not automatically make someone a terrorist any more than being from Boulder automatically makes someone a liberal. There are always a few exceptions [Coffee]

Seriously? Messing with the smoke detectors in the lavatory is a Federal offense. I am pretty certain messing with the cabin doors is a somewhat more serious offense.
I would have busted his head wide open and zip tied him.

You're exaggerating here. Trying RIP open the door? I guess the guy didn't ask him for help, but if he was looking for the bathroom.
Tampering with a smoke detector is not the same as jiggling the handle on a locked door. I'm taking this article with a grain of salt. If it was such a big deal at the time, something would have been done.
Just let him in the cockpit. Gonna be noisy for a second though.
As for opening doors on pressurized airplanes, there are a number of pilots on this board who could explain the physics for you. Simply put...To open the door, the cabin pressure must be equalized with the outside, and the door would have to be disarmed by someone who knows what they are doing. Nut jobs looking for the lavatory would pull their own arms off before they would get the door opened. [ROFL1]

This is true. Boulder is made up of liberals and moonbat retards.

Thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression that the TSA should be the agency to investigate an incident on an airliner.
And no, being from Saudi Arabia doesn't automatically make someone a terrorist... but that combined with his actions makes him very suspicious.
Anyone from Boulder is a libtard until they prove otherwise.

My bad... he was trying to graciously and gently ease open the hatch of a pressurized cabin.
As I interpret it... after pulling him away from the door the passenger asked something like "WTF were you doing? Are you trying to find the bathroom or something?" Its pretty easy to tell the difference between the bathroom door and the cabin door. I mean unless the bathroom doors now have warnings all over them and a little window with open skies on the other side, and the cabin door now has a sign that says "Lavatory" or "Restroom" on it... its been a while since I've been on a plane, so I guess its possible.

Not to mention the force of the air moving around the plane keeping the door in place.

yep! that has happened

oh yeah it would be![Beer]
