Howdy folks! I'm a Colorado native and am here to continue learning about Concealed.

I should be getting my Denver County issued permit in a few days and am not sure whether or not I'll be getting a gun but feel like our 2nd Amendment is being eroded away and have a strong interest in the original intention of our founding fathers. I firmly believe in our right to bear arms.

Currently I don't own a gun. I had a .22 bolt action rifle and also a .22 Ruger pistol years ago but sold them because I didn't like having a guns around my house.

I'm in no hurry to get a gun but sure would like to get to know more about technique, safety, gear, and legal ramifications. I'm sure there are some good people on here so making a few new friends is always a welcome thing too!

I spend a lot of my free time Jeeping, camping, and since I'm already out there will probably be target shooting too. I'm a firm believer in being able to have a ton of fun without being disrespectful to others. I wheel with a group of people that firmly believes in staying on the trail, we pack out more trash than we created, we clear trails from fallen trees, and pick up our casings and all remnants of target shooting.

I'm currently looking at the Chiappa 20DS as a primary carry since I think it might be one that I can spend some time on the range and in the forest shooting a lot. I'm impatiently planning to wait a year or so before making a decision on whether to buy it or not. I have the cash set aside for it now but I've read about trigger mechanism malfunctions and heavy trigger pull so I'm waiting to see if those will prove to be the death of a reliable gun or if it's a case of new release bugs. Any info or opinions from first hand experience is welcome.

I'm actively seeking some knowledge and experience from folks that have been around for a while. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you folks on the range sometime soon.

I wouldn't wait a year to get a gun if I were you and it also sounds like you could benefit alot from a basic firearms training class, there's no reason to be scared if you use all the gun safety rules.

I was thinking the same thing and would like to get some instruction. Does anyone have one to recommend? I live near I-25 and Alameda. I'm in no hurry to get a gun but if one comes along then great otherwise it's money not spent which my mortgage would benefit from getting instead.

Ha! Yeah it'd hard to not know Scotty. His rig is ridiculously sweet.

Well if I can avoid getting a girlfriend for a while then all is good. Then again I need another expensive pastime like I need another hole in my wallet. Maybe I'll take up origami instead. Hard to see a way that folding paper could get expensive and a paper cut is a lot better then rolling off a cliff or shooting my self :)

Yeah, I understand. It's odd and expensive. One of my main concerns with getting a gun is finding one that I'll actually carry on a regular basis and also shoot regularly.

I really like the size of the S&W 640 but after seeing how punishing the gun is shooting .357 I didn't think I would actually want to go to the range very often. I figure if I'm not shooting it regularly then I won't feel comfortable carrying it either. One thing I considered is shooting .38 for the majority of practice and loading .357 for carry. I'd rather be able to shoot either without issue but what do you think about that idea?

I've also wondered for years why gun manufacturers didn't make a gun with a centered barrel to eliminate muzzle flip. So seeing someone take a crack at it is pretty cool. In some ways I want it to work because the concept is solid and IMHO is something that should have been developed a long time ago.

I do have to say I have some pretty big reservations based on the problems that some people have given regarding the inconsistent trigger pull and flat out trigger jam. My original intention is to go with a revolver because they are so reliable and easy to maintain. I had a stainless steel Ruger .22 with a bull barrel and it was fun to shoot but frequently would not fire. After sending it in for repair and still having the problem I ended up selling it to a friend. With some hindsight I think the problem might have been the way I was holding the gun. It could have been that I didn't hold it in away that allowed the action to cycle correctly. At any rate, I don't want a gun where that is an issue.

I'm not set on the Rhino by any means. I'm just so new to handguns that all the options are dizzying and I'm trying to be realistic with myself. I'm not a hard core shooter and probably won't be. So I want something that I'll actually shoot and carry. If that means paying a few bucks more then so be it.

BTW I appreciate you asking. I'd rather learn that I am making a mistake in thought rather than a mistake in action.

Welcome to the forum! You might want to try and find a range that rents guns and shoot a few differnt types to what you like best.

That's a good idea. I'm going to the Firing-Line (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=20+South+Potomac+Street,+Aurora,+CO&hl=en&ll=39.715902,-104.827766&spn=0.108938,0.222988&sll=39.716036,-104.827898&sspn=0.108937,0.222988&vpsrc=6&hnear=20+S+Potomac+St,+Aurora,+Colorado+80012&t=m&z=13) on Friday to try out a SP101.
