So King of the city Bloomberg plans to ban any sugary drink over 16 ounces. No more Venti Starbucks, no more Big Gulps.

Of course if you think about it, this is pure genius. People will be forced to buy 2 smaller drinks at a significantly greater cost.

I'm sure all the folks who questioned the .gov banning anything, in tinelements smoking post, will still doubt IT CAN HAPPEN anywhere ANYTIME.

I hear prostitution and murder is still illegal in nyc too.

Banning OE wouldn't be popular North of 125th street...

But the standard bottle of soda is 20 oz. Also it doesn't apply to "diet" drinks so you can pour all the chemicals you want into your gullet but if it's over the calorie count and has suger it's banned. I hope this does happen just to see the backlash. Imagine guys with truck fulls of soda coming over the NJ border and G-men cracking open boxes of large cups. Can't wait!

I'm too angry over the Jenny McCarthy body count thread to waste my energy on this.

the ban wouldnt apply to grocery stores, convenience stores, dairy products like shakes, and i think a few other cases.

basically u cant get big drinks at restaurants.. but then u can refill it.. so that solved a lot. i just picture soda lovers carrying 2 liter bottles with them everywhere to protest this idiocy

It's been a few years, but 10th Ave, right outside the DEA's building, when the sun went down, the girls (by appearance) started walking. It was part of the ambiance. [ROFL1]

I love going to NYC. I couldn't live there. I can't afford the taxes [Coffee]

I liked the right before sunrise shift change ones. they'd offer you and the guys $5 bj's as an end of night comp. Nothing like a freshly rinsed and tooth brushed "lady" wanting to lessen your wallet by a few bucks. bad enough the bridge cost $3. to go home. F%^&k everyone want's your money in the Bad Apple.

I just cant figure out how these things get on the books being so unconstitutional..............

Like Cali and the the limiting the number of fast food places in a specific area to help not let people get so fat.

I believe in "Natural Consequences" goberment needs to stop telling people what to do, how to live, and think.

NYC wanted to ban the use of certain cooking oils in restaurants and wanted to ban smoking outdoors.

NYPD will arrest AND jail you if they spot a knife clipped to your pocket, or if they catch you putting your feet up on a seat in the subway.

While I am generally opposed to secession, I think we'd be a lot better of without NY, IL, NJ, MA, and RI. NYC and Chicago want to impose their way of life on the rest of the nation through federal legislation, and I think it's about time we just kick them out of the USA altogether. Too bad that just ain't feasible.

NY DID BAN the use of trans fat for cooking.. They did ban smoking in parks..

I think it is a GREAT move on the part of the city.. people are going to be pissed but so the fuck what..

If overweight people were costing me $4 bil a year I'd be pissed.

Yes sugar loaded softdrinks/coffee's lead to weight problems..

Don't believe me .. drink water and diet soda (not that it's better) for 2 weeks.. avoid any sugary drinks.. seriously.. watch yourself lose 10#s.

People in this country are a bunch of lazy, self-indulgent (as evidenced by the 'super-size' options available at fast food joins) fat asses who would rather eat themselves into a diabetic coma than to do anything resembling putting effort into it. Just look at the number of fast food joints as you drive down any street.

Totally agree with you here. I cut out soft drinks, sugary crap and severely cut down my alcohol intake and I've lost over 20 pounds.

I think the government should crack down on the really poor health foods out there, because in the long term we as a society are gonna pay for it dearly with diabetes and obesity in our young generation.

I'll never understand why people don't take care of themselves and abuse their bodies with all that sugary stuff and insanely fatty foods. I know it tastes good but geeze...

You diet is a personal choice. Should i become a vegetarian because 50% of america is and feels i should be? If that's the case why not be mandated in to driving electric cars????????/
Wait, that is already being rammed down our throats.

I am shocked some many members feel the.gov should be allowed to mandate what we eat, drink and who we may or may not have a relationship with.

Not a drinker of any carbonated beverage, alcohol, or caffeine
SO.............Why not ban alcohol?? After all drunk drivers kill or injury X thousands of people per year.
Ban firearms because they are dangerous
Ban internal combustion engines to save our valuable resources and the environment

ON & ON & ON.

if you want to lower healthcare costs caused by fat people then get the government out of healthcare like it should be anyway. the answer is not regulations!! when are people going to learn!?

in private healthcare the solution would be if you are a fat ass then you pay more for healthcare... fat person then learns i should lose weight to save money

people have to have personal resposibility to be free people[Rant1]

if we are going to ban sugary yummy drinks cuz some people drink too much of it in addition to an unhealthy diet and become fat then maybe at the same time we should ban all ipads, laptops, computers, tvs, xbox, nintendo, playstations. after all these promote stationary lifestyles.

Why do we need to babysit people so goddamn much? I've always been a naturalist- let nature do it's thing. If people want to make the choice to eat themselves to death who am I to say they can't? Same goes with drugs, you want to inject that brown shit into your arm? Smoke that off-white rock? Go for it! As long as you don't infringe on my liberties go ahead and shoot, snort, smoke, eat your way to blissful comatose death! I've always been against holding people's hands and trying to legislate behavior that only destroys yourself. If it doesn't hurt anyone next to you (yes, I understand they need money to pay for their habit, punish THAT crime when it happens) then I'm not going to lecture you, you should know crack/meth/heroin/fatty foods/etc is bad for you, take responsibility for yourself. Yes, sometimes I like to indulge in a Dr. Pepper, it's not often, but I can reward myself once in a while with something sugary and fizzy because I'm a fucking American! Freedom, I put in my $1.05 plus tip! Many of you did too, so like the great old saying goes: "Don't tread on me!"
Thank you!

Agreed! And not just about being a surrogate mommy regarding smoking and Big Gulps, but also healthcare. I believe we should couple individual freedom with personal responsibility. Do whatever you want to do to your own body. But then take responsibility for whatever mess you create, and pay for your own healthcare. I pay my own way in the world, and don't ask for handouts. I'm tired of giving them.
