View Full Version : speaking of auto service.....(Chevy trucks)
Any of you Chevy truck guys know of any good Chevy truck mechanics? My 2000 Silverado 1500 has a problem with the heat/cool knob....once you turn it to heat it stays there until it's damn good and ready to come back to cool, usually after sitting for a few hours. They say it's probably some kind of "door"?
And the gas gauge needle is starting to wig out, jumping around and flipping back and forth when the truck is just idling. Don't know if it's the sending unit or a grounding issue.
A dealership isn't out of the question, if there's any good ones out there.

My 2000 2500 has the same issues. Gas gauge is useless, and my heater stays on.
on the gas gauge thing, Ive been told they will have to drop the tank, so I have never messed with it.
I do have a guy that I use that comes out to my house.. I havent really asked him about these issues, so Im not sure he could help, but he has done a bunch of other work for me. my favorite thing about him is that the bill is always what he tells me it is. he never "finds" more things wrong.
seems to be a very honest guy.

Sounds like you need a Ford.
In all actuality, probably in need of a blend door actuator.
these have a blow motor control module, i have also seen the wiring melt together at the switch, also by your right foot, there is a vacuum switch tha comes apart, just saying!!

I trust the head service manager at the Lone Tree Chevrolet.
His name is Garret and he could have taken advantage of me countless times
and never did. Only worked on what was needed. I dont have annumber for them, but if you call tell him Gabe from Weatehrford sent ya, he should know me.

That sounds familiar. I had it checked out when there was still a dealer in Parker, all I remember was hearing $500+.
And it's hard to get rid of a truck that's still nice, and paid for! I'd rather put money into fixing it than make payments on a new one. Then there's the higher insurance, and outrageous tags.....

Lone Tree Chevy, huh? That sounds close to home. Thanks! Is that the Ed Bozarth place?

I believe so because he used to be the service manager at the Ed Bozarth off
Havana in Saudi Aurora where I used to take my work truck. I called him once and
had to set up an account with them through my company but I wasnt at that company long enough
to do so. So I havnt been there since he moved to the Lone Tree one.

I would try resetting the HVAC module before replacing the blend door motor.
1 Pull the 10 amp HVAC fuse
2 Turn Key On Engine Off
3 Wait at least 30 seconds, just hang out for a minute or 2 is what I do. Longer does not hurt but too short can
4 Key off
5 Replace fuse
6 See if it works

Taking the bed off the truck you get to the gas tank is easier than dropping it. Unless one of the welded on bolts breaks free and you have to sawzall the bolt! Ask me how I know!!!
Pretty common and easy fixes just slightly time consuming. Replace your fuel pump and strainer while you are in the tank if it hasn't already been done

No bill please, it didn't work. Now I don't have heat at all! At least the A/C still kicks ass. Reckon I need to just quit buying guns and shit and get it fixed.

The blend door does not move at all now? Do it again a few times. Serious. PM me for a quote on getting it done.
Heater in my 2000 Silverado has been doing the same thing for years, one of these days i'll get around to changing the blend door motor.
It really sucks when your wife drives your truck and turns on the heat early one summer morning cause it was chilly and you get stuck driving 2 hours with the heater stuck on when its 90+ outside. Don't get me started on the lumbar support that does the same thing.

Looks like I should set up a group buy blend door motor day.[Beer]
Been doing a little 'net research, and it seems this is a VERY common problem with Silverados and Sierras from several year models. Also seems to be a real biatch to fix by yourself. This is not encouraging. Seems GM should own up to this and fix 'em.

The gauge problem is a common problem as well. Unless you're a guru with repairing electrical hardware, you'll just end up with a new cluster. Hit or miss getting one from a junk yard. All of our trail blazers in Iraq had this problem.
