Edited that GeoMac screen shot to show where my boss' house was (his name is Ken).
I look at this picture and all I see is some sort of message from God to Ken to straighten his shit out (he also owns a home down in Ruidoso, NM that almost burned a week or so ago in a fire there).

Think you're reading that wrong. I think I'll buy next to his place since they don't burn.... [Beer] Or have him buy next to me!

Screw that. I'll buy in that cul de sac one block over. Everything there is already burnt away, so it's safest for next time.

I'm convinced that the reason his place and all the others in his little condo community survived is because they're Spanish Mission style houses. Stucco exterior with Spanish tile roofs.
Here's what they look like http://goo.gl/maps/glzZ
If I ever build in a high fire danger area I'm building a Spanish Mission style house ... that or using steel shipping containers.
edit: Looks like one of his neighbors places was on the market. (http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5732-Via-Verona-Vw-Colorado-Springs-CO-80919/58405937_zpid/)

Furnish those, I could comfortably live in a couple of containers with the center wall removed.

Stucco is great compared to wood but they have trees pretty close.
One of the things I recently learned is that enough heat can go through a window to ignite curtains and wood blinds inside a closed house. One of the last things you're supposed to do in an evac is pull down curtains and move anything else easily burnable away from windows.

I lived in a connex for 9 months in Iraq. It wasn't too bad.
346 homes lost in Colorado Springs in one night. Just boggles the mind.

Now some nut case has sent emails stating it was a religious fanatic from AR. that started it.
If in fact it is ruled a terrorists act how many insurnace comapnies are gone walk?

that would be terrible, I really hope it doesn't come to that.
I don't see why arson would be called a terrorist act or why it would allow insurance companies to absolve their responsibilities...

Most insurance policies don't cover damage done by "act wars and insurrection" ... terrorism is sometimes considered an act of war.

Yep, in fact, 9/11/01, the insurance companies could have bailed on all of the claims, and if memory serves me, they even talked of it. I believe the feds stepped in, and encouraged them to cover the claims anyways, as the financial impact to all of us would have been immense.
We are working the fires the best we can. 3,000 gallons of red goop at a time.
Visibility has been pretty bad so we have not been able to fly as much as we would like.
Keep up the good work, Hoser!! [Beer]

My guess is that's BS, if my house just burnt down, and the fire was still raging, the last thing on my mind would be calling ADT.

Looks like El Paso Sheriff's office is taking ABC News to task over twisting a statement, that this was terrorism.
War and rioting are specifically excluded losses in insurance policies. After 9/11, the ISO forms were rewritten to include something about terrorism. I think it might be just on commercial properties, and I think it is now an elective coverage, but I've been out of claims too long to be sure.
Also, there are reports of several people calling in to GET insurance on their uninsured homes as the fires grew closer. Of course they were denied; dumbasses.

My wife was able to drive past our house today, and everything is still standing. She hasn't been inside yet because she's particularly sensitive to smoke and dust.
Thanks for all that sent their good thoughts.

All of Colorado is worshipping you guys right now Hoser. Once again, please pass on to your crews that we most sincerely thank you guys for the jobs that you do. I'm sure you guys are wiped out due to your current Ops tempo, but your efforts have helped to keep this from being so much worse.
According to KKTV News, Mayor Bach has officially stated that 346 (or 347) structures (mostly homes) have been lost so far in this fire.

Police have just stated that the body of 1 adult was found in the burned home in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
Reports state that there were 2 adults in the home and the second person is now missing.
ETA: The body of the missing adult has been found in the burned remains of the home.
I've got to wonder WHY they didn't evacuate.

RIP. I'm afraid there will be more.
THANK YOU Hoser and crews!!!
Getting ready to go out again today.
The guys on the ground are looking at how things went last night to make sure they have a good plan for us.
Yesterday we worked the west side of the fire along Hwy 24 above Crystola/Cascade and also the north east side.
Below is some pics from Tuesday mid day.

my wife and dog have moved back into our house. the GeoMAC website showed the closest it got was about a half mile (I think, I'm not good with maps).....
Thanks all who sent their good thoughts and prayers.
A special thanks out to all those involved in getting this thing contained/controlled/all of that... (that means you, Hoser)
My wife and I are in Wheat Ridge staying with relatives. Our area in NW COS is still in the evacuation area. I am listening to scanners on the PC and crews are all around our neighborhood working on "smokers". From the Google crisis maps it looks like fire got into neighbors back yards. Our house looks untouched. We just have to wait this out.
Feel so bad for those that lost their houses and lives.

you can check the exact address

They don't have us mapped yet. Our house is at the base of Blodgett peak.
All looks ok on the Google crisis maps.
I heard in the morning briefing that there were "a few" burglaries in the evacuated areas. Just reprehensible.

One of these pictures I took of Peregrine a few days ago might help. These are huge pictures, so use your browser to zoom in on the part where your house is located:
South Peregrine (http://nankoweap.com/waldocanyon/peregrine1.jpg)
North Peregrine (http://nankoweap.com/waldocanyon/peregrine2.jpg)
I've been keeping an eye on Peregrine for some friends -- these pictures were taken at the worst it got up there and I never saw any structure fires whatsoever. So though there might be some burned lawns, shrubs and trees, I think you're ok, though I can't speak to smoke damage.
The pictures were taken from Chapel Hills Mall, so the easier you can see the mall from your house the easier it should be to spot in the picture.

Appreciate the photos. My house is a bit to the left of the edge shown on the North picture.
I always said that Colo. Springs was as close to paradise that I ever found. This week it looks like it is close to the infernal reaches.
Been working power restoration since 530 this morning, seeing all the damage loss makes me sick.
My thoughts go out to all affected by this madness.....
