So, lighting/using fireworks is now illegal in Colorado due to the fire danger so why on Earth is it legal to sell them at these stands? That makes no sense.

Please elaborate. What stands are you talking about?

I saw one on the east side of Sheridan about 50th? yesterday. Didn't look to see if they were actually selling any, but they sure had the signs out advertising fireworks.

There are stands up here in loveland selling them. I feel bad for the person who invested the money because no one is buying them and there going to loose out big time this year.
People will still light them off even though they are illegal most places.

and those assbags are the type of people that contribute to the situation we're in right now with a fire every which way you turn [Rant1] [Bang]
Urgh, so frustrating
This is but a step for the tree huggers to get them outlawed forever.

I think it's about the $$$. Keep the vendors happy and let them sell them and they make whatever money they happen to given the ban. Then the county they are used in makes their revenue off all the people who break the law and are arrested for using them. Heaven forbid should they ban the sale of fireworks for safety! That would make to much sense.

Its illegal to light them not sell them. Why punish the small businesses who invested the money. If people are stupid they will pay the consequence.
That is like saying banning guns will prevent all gun related deaths.

Not so sure about that. We had the same kind of ban a few years ago and most everyone understood and complied. At least around here. [Flower]

You must not live in Denver, as long as I can remember they have been illegal in Denver, but that never stopped anyone from lighting them.
I made my kids use them on New Years Eve (if snow was on the ground) if the 4th of July was too dry. Kids don't care and the snow changes the fire danger.
My cousin owns a stand. You can sell any of the fireworks that dont leave the gtound and yhat dont go bang to residents. The real fireworks can only be sold to non res who are going back to their states to light them. So you must have a out of state Id. Its so easy to get around it. I hate fireworks with the passion ever since i was a kid.

Yeah, now that you said that, you're absolutely right.

So, if a fireworks business opens up in, lets say, Aurora, where the highway signs say "ALL FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN AURORA," Im to feel sorry for the business owner who invested in a fireworks stand, knowing the current fire danger in CO? You're kidding right? Do people not read the news? I predicted the Stage 2 fire restrictions would be coming simply because of the lack of moisture and the mild winter. Not to mention the FIRES that are burning all over ours and our neighboring states!!!! Oh yeah, thats right, its all about tax revenue and to hell with the fire danger as long as we get to do what we want right? Oh and one more thing, not every law made is a conspiracy initiated by "tree huggers."

My guess is that like many businesses, they purchased their inventory long ago, far before the ban.

Perhaps, but should businesses base 100% of their summer revenue stream on just a feeling? What if we got a month of rain in May and that guy didn't stock up and there was no stage 2 ban? As a multiple business owner myself, if my revenue was based on the six weeks prior to the 4th, I would do whatever I had to do to get rid of the inventory I just spent a bunch of money on, even if using my product was illegal - because selling it is not.
Oh and one more thing, not every law made is a conspiracy initiated by "tree huggers."
Absolutely correct! However, once a "back door" has been discovered, I have little doubt that those tree huggers will exploit it. Now, I understand and agree with the fire bans that are in place, even the shooting bans - we have a situation right now. However, now that this is a possibility that shooting CAN be banned, I feel confident that it will be more and more from this point on. We can probably look forward to stage 1 bans or even "moderate to high" danger will produce a shooting ban.

Nope. The anti gun groups get their say too.
Most cities in CO still allow the use of Safe & Sane fireworks. Denver and Aurora have their ban but most others do not.
I live in Unincorporated Arapahoe counts and the people living across the street from me are in Aurora proper so if it were not for the ban I could legally light fireworks and my neighbors can not, because of the funkiness of Aurora/Unincorporated Arapahoe you see stands all over Aurora since it's not really Aurora and this is why Aurora feels the need to post that fireworks are illegal everywhere.
Personally I think the fire ban sucks for people who live in neighborhoods like mine. The houses have asphalt roofs and there are no areas nearby that are capable of burning with wildfire.

My black powder mortars are currently NOT being fired only because of the extreme threat of wild fires. The spider families living in them are safe until we get that much needed moisture.[BooHoo]
Yea I canceled my vacation over the first week of july about two weeks ago because I knew I wouldn't be able to blow crap up. Now I'm dealing with the severe depression of not being able to indulge my pyro side, I just hope we can get some mosture to knock out some of the fires burning now.

Why should the sale of something that is under a temporary, conditions based ban, be banned?
That's like saying because you can't go shooting inside of city limits that ammo should not be sold there either.
It's absolutely scary that so many want to see a business shut down because the main item they sell can't be used right now. Undoubtedly there will be idiots out there that use them without proper thought involved (ie using them during the ban), but does that justify the banning of the item from sale? How about taking care of the problem, nail the assholes to the wall when they don't heed the warnings. Make the penalty stiff enough that most people will think twice about it before they use them irresponsibly. Does the criminal acts of gangs, murderers, rapists, and the like justify the ban of selling ammo and guns? No, so why should the actions of a few idiots regulate the sale of any other item?

Most cities and townships have permanent ordinances banning fireworks yet do very little to enforce said ordinances until someone's house or apartment building burns down from fireworks.
The fireworks stands usually set up on little patches of unincorporated lands scattered throughout out the Metro area to skirt these laws.
That business on north Federal that sells fireworks year round is just north of the C&C of Denver limits in unincorporated Adams county.
Most folks drive north to Wyoming to get the good stuff.
What is needed is stricter enforcement of all the fireworks laws to drive the message home to the idiots that think fireworks are a right they are entitled to.
Every 4th of July I am out watering down the roof of my house because I can hear the remains of these idiots fireworks hitting my roof.
Do they have to get permits to open the fireworks stands? If so the city would have to revoke those permits and I would imagine refund the cost of the permits.

The people lighting fireworks are idiots and the guy watering his house isn't? Wow.
Bob. I have never irresponsibly used fireworks. Next you will condone banning firearms.

I am not condoming banning of fireworks, they are already ILLEGAL in most all of the metro area cities. And in the arid climate of the area it makes sense.
Go ahead and shoot off all the bottle rockets and whatever you want, but make sure all the debris falls on your home and not mine or your neighbors so when your house burns down, then maybe you will understand why fireworks are illegal.
Here is a Colorado Public Radio piece on it that was played just today. May have useful information in it for those that are hard of thinking.

Until fireworks offenses command the same kind of fines that DUI's do you will never see heavy enforcement of the fireworks laws due to the majority of LEO resources on the 4th being dedicated to DUI enforcement.
Unless you have a wood shake roof I'm not sure why your house would catch on fire from a stray bottle rocket or even a low break mortar. I'm no fire science major but I believe a stray ember is not capable of lighting an asphalt roof on fire. If you do have a wood shake roof and people nearby are shooting fireworks into the air I would recommend calling the cops every 5 minutes until they show up.
