I've decided to drop some real coin on a real optic.
My uses - general shooting/training/3gun
My budget - keep it south of $1200

I love the idea of Leupold's "cheaper" VX-6 (http://3gunnation.com/products/leupold_vx-6_multigun). At $800 it will be more expensive than any other optic I own.

But i know most of the world is koo-koo for ACOG, and for a comparable price, they are a viable option.

I like the versatility of variable power, but am I losing a ton of resale value by going w/ something other than ACOG? What other options am I overlooking? What do you run/not live without.

A variable 1-4 or 1-6 scope is going to be a much more useful optic than an ACOG, especially for 3-gun.

An ACOG is definitely a more "bombproof" optic, but my guess is that you're not going to be rolling through IED infested streets so that aspect is irrelevant.

Here is just what you want. Or maybe it's just what I want. Whatever.

Making gear decisions based on resale value is a mistake in my opinion . Base the decision on the needs at hand and what works for your applications .

The AGOG's have a non adjustable eyepiece for reticule focus and depending on your eye sight it may be blurry . Todays variable scopes are way stouter than in years past and typically provide trouble free service . For a multi use platform variable's would be my first choice .

A solid choice to be sure

As with just about any scope, I strongly suggest playing with one first.

The 1-6's exit pupil, eye relief, and illumination should be a concern...

I liked my Loopy 1-8 even though it was a touch heavy, but the illumination blew. Worthless for close up stuff and night.

Check out the Burris mtac 1-4. It's great for the money. $400 retail and it feels like it is built really well.
