View Full Version : For all you word-smiths out there...
I don't know exactly what warranted it, but I was in a mood this afternoon and a friend of mine texted me (granted 90% of all texts sent out there would make an English teacher cry, but I digress), he wanted to know if I wanted to go see the new Batman this weekend, I said of course then proceeded to ask him if he's free Sat to do so. This was his response:
"Yea"
So naturally, anyone who gets this, I responded: "Nay! HAHAHA!"
And then spent the next 5 min explaining that "yea" is pronounced "Yay" and that the word he was looking for was "yeah." I'm curious to ask some of our more grammar Nazi-esque members, do any of you find that little goof kinda funny when people type out 'yeah' as 'yea?'
I had to use the example watch a session of congress on TV (I know, paint, meet drying) and when it comes time to vote on something it pops up on the screen VOTES: YEA: ## NAY: ##.

I hate it when I'm having a long text conversation and they text back with "k". Very rarely do I want to talk about "potassium".

I personally think texting is making kids these days illiterate. And to make things worse, they talk like they text. Makes you wanna slap them.

Almost! Both parents and 2 uncles were teachers. Wife, sister and BIL are all teachers as well.

I'm gonna go ahead and hope here that the wife is not one of those liberal types that is entrusted with the education (or mis-education) of our youth? My favorite teacher in high school was one of the few republicans that taught there... tell me they still exist!
