Let's start something like a fundraiser / donation thing to use our compassion for our fellow man to at least help put a band aid on the wounds caused by that psycho.
I don't really know what that would look like now. Suggestions?
I would do what I can to help / lead.
Thank you.

I can't think of anything that will really be a huge help (nothing can replace stolen lives) But I was thinking maybe holding a candle light prayer or something near the scene. Pray for the dead, the wounded and the families... I don't know. It's the only thing that I can think of. At least offer our support? I wish I wasn't in Afghanistan, so I could take part in whatever helpful activities that I could.
EDIT: Maybe bring flowers or "care packages" to the wounded in the hospitals? Maybe start a fund to help with funeral cost?
Little things like paying for, or bringing them dinner.
Rotate on a daily/weekly basis
I think little things like that could help

Excellent ideas! Even if we got together a huge sum of money to donate, we couldn't be sure of where it goes, etc...

I have a friend who runs an organization which is collecting donations. He is a fellow shooter and raised money for fire victims.

The Red Cross may have some ideas.
I do not have the time to head this up right now because of work but I do have an idea that sparked in the main thread.
It is along the lines of meals. Not having to deal with cooking/buying food could really help these families. Not having to worry about little things like that could take a lot of stress off of these people.
I am not sure which hospital these people are being treated at, and they could even remain anonymous. We could do something like put together a meal schedule and have certain members drop off meals or restaraunt gift cards with the hospital staff. The hospital staff could then give this stuff to the families. Of course we would need to contact the hospital first and see if this would be okay.

gift cards might be a good idea, because I bet the hospitals would have food safety concerns with outside food. Can one buy gift certificates online?

Good point. You can probably get them online, I know you can at walmart/king soopers
Go donate blood. Today.
Bonfils is apparently booked up. Not accepting walk-ins and appointments are having to be set next week.
I was about to go up there today and see if they would let me donate (wasn't sure because of my ATV deal), then they announced on the news that walk-ins weren't going to fit.
Denver, Colo (July 20, 2012) – Due to an overwhelming response to this morning's shooting tragedy, Bonfils Blood Center is currently not accepting any walk-in donors as all appointments at our donor centers and blood drives for today through Monday, July 23 are booked. Bonfils strongly encourages those community members wanting to donate blood to call 303.363.2300 or visit www.bonfils.org to schedule your appointment and find a donor center/mobile drive nearest you. We are particularly in need of O-, A- and platelet donations and ask that donors with those blood types please consider donating. Bonfils is also experiencing a high volume of calls and website traffic at this time and we ask for your cooperation and patience as you try to schedule an appointment .
As of this time, Bonfils has met the needs of the local hospitals involved in this tragedy by sending more than 300 units of blood and is asking that donors make appointments in the coming weeks to help replenish our blood supply.
For those wanting to give back but are unable to donate blood you can also help by making a financial contribution to support our everyday operations including mobile blood drive programs, patient safety efforts, etc. Make a gift of any size here: www.bonfils.org/giving
For nearly 70 years, Bonfils Blood Center has successfully managed the community blood supply and played an integral role in Colorado’s healthcare system. Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to nearly 200 healthcare facilities and needs to collect more than 3,000 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events. For information about Bonfils Blood Center please call 303.363.2300 or visit www.bonfils.org or look for us on Facebook and Twitter.

I was thinking I could buy a couple and have somebody from the forum pick them up at a store locally and take them to the hospitals on their trip there.

It's cool. Don't worry about it. Just sayin' that I can give about 11 hours of help tomorow. I only have Internet and outgoing phone calls, But if I can help, I'd be honored to.

I would like to see us do something to support victim families as well as have an event for firearms safety training. Let me know. I am down to help.

That's an excellent idea Ken, could combo that.
We have any east slope instructors willing to do a couple free CCW classes? Can add your logo/info to a PR flyer. I'm willing to do a few on this side of the state myself. (I run them out of this shop as I have time)
Could do a centralized donation for whatever purpose/purposes (I'll setup a separated savings to maintain it in case we want to pay actual costs of say, medical expenses or funeral costs, the engine maintains an automatic audit log as you donate so not worries. If donations get crazy, I might need help paying the interchange fees next month, but no matter what 100% goes to its purpose)
Then we can run free firearm safety/CCW classes for all instructors willing to participate. Not necessarily centralized, although it could be, may be easier if the classes are not... but continue to throw ideas out there. Perhaps place a restriction on "For persons new to firearms only".
Thanks for adding the poll, foxtrot.
I would certainly be down for offering free firearm safety/CCW classes.
There is a condolence form on 9news, Maybe we can have a word-smith come up with a Site condolence or even include that we are members of COAR15 in our own individual submissions. If that would be ok with the Mods.
Here is the link, there is a form box to the right-side.

yup. And again, Don't hesitate to use me. I sit here on RTO for 12 hours in the middle of the night doing nothing anyway. Figure I could be more useful if I took an active role to help you guys help the victims.

I've been told I'm pretty good at writing things, I'd volunteer my services to write up something on behalf of our community here- pending any mod/member review. I'd like to help in any way I can either way.

Count me in on this.
I like all the ideas. Meals, funeral costs, Firearm training.
If the guys donating their firearm training knowledge need help with ammo costs for live fire, I'll donate. Or help with firearm usage. Whatever let me know.
I can cook too.! Happy to make a few big meals to pass out too.

I say the public needs to be trained in the use of a firearm for self protection. If any instructors are offering free CCW classes I will be willing to run one/several with you as backup. I am NRA certified but yet ready to run solo.
I would be willing to do a few one on one courses though!

I would encourage folk to do what they can to help on their own, but I don't think some sort of organized help from the COAR15 community is a good idea as it'll be seen as some sort of admission of guilt on the part of all law abiding gun owners.
Yeah, I'm a cynic, but its a real effin' cynical world.
Please post the details once they're worked out. We're happy to help any way that we can.

I don't see it as an admission of guilt; that's like everyone donating to the fire victims admitting guilt for having a camp fire at some time.
I see where you're coming from but I think we should do whatever we can.

I really don't know on this one. My first instinct is to maintain a low profile. Or a monetary donation to an organization assisting victims...like the Red Cross or something.
But I don't know...it's a tough call.

I don't see it as an admission of guilt; that's like everyone donating to the fire victims admitting guilt for having a camp fire at some time.
But there isn't a huge movement to camping to "protect the forest from fire" There is a huge movement to ban guns under the misguided belief that it would prevent things like this.

I agree, which is why I think we should all do what we can as individuals.

[FONT="]I still think this is playing too much into their hands; I’m not saying we should have a media campaign but I think offering free CCW classes or assisting with medical bills is far from admitting guilt to anything. I don’t feel guilty about anything that has happened and unfortunately we don’t have the kind of life where we can provide much individual assistance. I could donate to one of the relief organizations but I’d rather see something organized through here so I’m reasonably assured that the $$$ are going where they're supposed to.... Even if it's other families doing something more direct.
Where some might see some sort of false admittance of guilt others hopefully will see a community helping in time of need. But you can't make anyone think anything, you can only put the thought out there.

I'm not as concerned as "how people see it" as I am with doing what I can to give in a time of need. If we as a community have an organized donation of any type then count me in
