Has anybody ever heard of or used one of these? http://www.fixmestick.com/?gclid=CJOnivWbrrECFYcBQAod1goAkQ

A friend of mine told me about it last night. Said his PC was so hosed up with viruses and crap it was unusable, he couldn't even turn it on. He'd had an "expert" come and check it out, and was charged $140 to be told there was nothing he could do except install a new hard drive.

Bryan said he'd heard about this product somehow, and figured WTF, it was worth a chance. He said it basically went through his PC and beat the shit out of all the nasties in it, and now the PC runs and works perfectly, just like new.

Just wondering if any of you have tried one. I don't think I need one, but if they work this good I'm going to keep it in mind.

What did you say?

He said "computer magic wand"
[ROFL1]

Never heard of these, but might be an affordable and easy to use tool that could save from having to reformat a hard drive and start all over (which is usually the only/best solution available)..

This is the only "fix it stick" that I've used with any success for a computer.......

Well, that didn't work, but you get the idea......

Agreed. Could we have that in English, Byte? Preferably dumbed down a little for me?

It cleans up some junk data in your computer's main database, and it scans for viruses.

He said it was like having a relative in the hospital, brain-dead and in a coma, and he came back the next day and they were up, showered, dressed, had breakfast and was ready to go home.

I may have to get one just to run some preventative maintenance and cleanup with, supposed to be good for 3 computers. From what the website says, it appears these things need to be the latest, most current version to work right. Can't buy one and toss in a drawer for 3 years. Gotta be new enough to know about most of the nasties out there, I reckon.

$140? incompetence or greed. A 5 dollar thumb drive and a bootable free kaspersky image and let it run.

last I checked, Kapersky doesn't fix registry errors or remove rootkits

true, but if you can remove the virii you can mostly get in to fix things or at least save what is important. rootkits are a pain but in most cases I have seen are a lower level problem. your mileage may vary though.

Google TDSSKILLER and it will take you to the Kaspersky utility for rootkit removal.

You guys do realize that the majority of us unwashed heathens have NO idea what the hell you're talking about, right? That's what makes this little magic thingie perfect for us. Maybe one of you 'puter whizzes should make and market something like this? Make yerself a million bucks and throw a BBQ for the rest of us.

Hello- my name is Corey Velan and I'm a founder of FixMeStick. Just wanted to clear up that the FixMeStick connects to our backend every time it is run to get all the latest malware definitions so it can clean up the latest and baddest malware. Also, the FixMeStick does remove rootkits, but doesn't clean up the registry. The FixMeStick gets the really bad stuff out of the way and then most regular anti-virus programs can clean up the registry.

Interesting! How did you know we were discussing it here? Just curious.

We have a google alert (http://www.google.com/alerts) set up that sends us an email whenever FixMeStick appears on the web. I'd be happy to answer any more questions if you have them.

That's cool! I'm too much of an old technotarded geezer to understand this stuff, but I was wondering if you had some way of knowing when people searched for info about your product. My buddy Bryan says he was very impressed with it! Thrilled, even. Saved his PC.

I learned something today! I'll keep "Fix Me Stick" in my mind if I get in a nasty jam.

Hmm. So, what I hear him saying is that it isn't actually a magic wand for PC's. Disappointing. <joke>

Sounds like an amazing product that I'm sure I'll be picking up for those times when I'm asked to fix someones ridiculously toasted computer.
