View Full Version : Any Supermoto Riders in here?
Just wondering if there are any other motard riders in here. Whether track or a street tarder I was just curious and would like some other guys to ride with. Seems to be a lot of V-Twin but how about some love for the thumpers? [Beer]
Looks like we are off to a great start with supermotos! [ROFL2] A little Hooligan inspiration?

Montaguegp (a member here) races supermoto, but only organized races at actual tracks. He doesn't act like a moron on public roads.

Suzuki DRZ 400 SM's. Not the fastest bike around but they are bulletproof and a great supermoto platform.

Dude.... I'm probably buying a supermoto here in the next 4-5 months, and I think it would be sweet to setup a ride day sometime. Cool way to meet dudes on the forum.
I'll keep this thread in mind when the time comes...
There are some seriously sweet deals on Craig's right now. I had been searching for months waiting for just the one and bingo it popped up. A 2007 with 13 miles on it. It sold about 10 minutes after the guy posted it.

ill have to keep an eye out for one as a kick around bike they look super fun
When you find one let me know and we will go ride. I passed on an opportunity a few weeks back to buy a DRZ for $2500. I'm still kicking myself over it.
I'm still trying to get mine street legal. I have a converted KX250 L3 that I built up. I did the full stator kit and rear axle 25 mm conversion. It is ready to go, but I just gotta find time to get the road worthiness inspection done. The thing is stupid fast and pulls up the front end just by thinking about it. I'd be down to ride and I live right next to some awesome mountain riding.
Get r' done and hit me up! I bet that 250 will fly! My DRZ is still in stock form with only cosmetic mods. I'll start building it up eventually but I'm having too much fun riding it as is. It's decently quick but with some carb work and a big bore it'll romp.
My supervisor has a 97' cr500 that is motarded out. I rode it around the block at his place, and fucking thing is scary!
I'll bet. Get yours ready so we can ride! Too bad you are down in the Springs though. My DRZ doesn't like the highway very much.

If you are going to do a DRZ might contact Davey @ http://www.durelleracing.com/store/ and ask about the swingarm he had for the DRZ. He raced one on the peak and flat track years ago. At the worst he can get the shocks in order. Tell him jerry sent ya.

It's the most fun bike I've ever ridden. Gets great gas mileage too! Fun you can afford. That should be their slogan! [ROFL2]

I just got my new LED tail light and tag bracket. Came out sick. Way better than the stock garbage with the HUGE tail light and stock bracket.
Nice! I had to piece mine together with some part from other bikes but it came out alright I think. I wanted to keep it light so that it would not bounce the fender.

Nice bikes! I love the kawi. If I could get my 2-smoker to get some sort of decent gas mileage I would love to use it as a commuter, but I'm pushing it if I ride 60 miles with even the slightest bit of hooligan thrown in the mix (and thats with a 3 1/2 gal. tank)...

Get that inspection done and we can go play in the north Metro.
besides craigslist is there any where else i should be checking?
eBay has some as well. You can also check Super Moto Junkie in the classifieds. Craigs is your best bet though because local, cash deals are where you are going to have the best luck.

I just a sick deal on a set of supermoto wheels/tires for the DRZ too. Hope you lock that one down!
how sad would i be with a 250 vs the 400?
They are significantly different. The 400 isn't a rocket by any means. With some basic mods it is much better.

Can be. The first year Davey tried to register in the 750 class with the DR400 (more like 480) he was told that he had to run the 500 class.
First time in history I think someone was told that it is too small to run in a bigger class. he still was the fastest overall of the bikes that year. I ran the 77 IKF nats in 250 open in a 200 Kart and led for 45 min. Oh well, just to many hours on it but it was fun while it lasted. [Flower]

Have you thought about buying a street legal 450 supermoto conversion?
Lots more fun but I dont think they would be near as reliable being ridden hard on the street.....[Dunno]
I have a XR650 I'd love to do this to. I'm just tired of having to load that beast up in the back of the truck and drive for an hour to ride. Much better to ride right out of the driveway.
What exactly do you have to do to make street legal and aprox. cost

Those have a pretty good rep.
Cofi did you ever end up locking down that DRZ? I have been riding my DRZ every day but up here at altitude the thing will not wheelie well at all. I can clutch it up in first and that's about it. I still can't even get it up to balance point. I need to do some jetting and the 3x3 airbox mod and it should get more peppy. I'm also going to gear it down. Anyone else have experience with their bike losing its balls up here?
i have not the last guy i was going to trade with flaked at the last minute....still searching but the babys been sickies so thats been taking a toll on the fam shes on the mend so next week.....the search continues :)

Jerry Durelle is over in Elizabeth right? Do I need to set up an appointment over there to get my bike in? I'm sure they are pretty busy. It's hard for me to down my bike since I ride it so much when the weather is nice. Who has had a good ride lately?

^ Sick bike!
Thanks!
It was a 98 400SC, topped out about 55ish the way it was geared. Really fun to ride around Fort Collins.
But alas, I roasted the motor and didn't have the $$ to fix it so I traded it off.
I would love to get another but I need to get into a house first.
can anyone in the springs who is knowledgeable about bikes come and check one out with me

looking at this my only concern is does it need a quick carb rebuild or a new engine....

Being an 04 CRF 450 it probably needs valves. These are notorious for the valves receding into the head. Even if it isn't starting due to something else, it will need valves before long.
yea i talked to the guy on the phone i dont think im gonna do it buying stuff that doesnt work is always a recipe for disaster
according to him he started it it ran he put it in his trailier drove to wherever he was going and it wouldnt start so he pulled the head and changed the piston put it back together and it still dosent run
which means it has the original problem plus who knows if this guy properly did anything so the pistons gonna have to be checked
I agree definitely don't pick that one up!

Pretty simple, actually. Time consuming, and a PITA, but straightforward. PM me for details.
I am going out riding later tonight. Anyone want to go?
Bump where are all the motorcycle nerds? We need to have a meet up and ride GTG. All bikes are welcome. An updated pic of my motard!

For those few (if any) who have been keeping up with the Supermoto thread. Since I got hurt I haven't been riding so I've been messing around with some ideas on my tard. I did some basic paint work and chopped my front fender. I also did some airbox mods, switched my gearing to 13/41, and am getting ready for a jet kit. My bike is much peppier now and the throttle is much more responsive. Wheelies come up nice and smooth in 1st/2nd with some clutch. I still can't power wheelie it though due to the jetting being wrong. Anyways, let me know what you think! I will be painting all of the yellow black eventually but this is all I got through today. I also got the headlight assembly done in black too but it wasn't dry yet. It came out pretty decently for a rattle can half ass job.

Cant wait to hear what it lays down!
Sorry for the delay in posting up the dyno results Outback, things have been crazy! Anyway, my bike runs NIGHT AND DAY better. I picked up 3.5 HP! You can't really tell too well but in the bottom graph my original A/F ratio is in blue and it was off of the chart until just before redline. The bike runs much better and although 3.5 ponies doesn't seem significant, consider that my bike started with only 29.80! I can certainly feel the extra ponies and especially will be able to when I get a big bore done and some other mods.
Epic Motosports is awesome. I was very impressed. Their new shop in Dacono is badass. The owner of the shop, Eddie Sisneros, has a DRZ like mine and he holds the current record of the highest hp DRZ with 64 HP. Mother of God his DRZ is insanely fast! I will certainly be going back. They sell at full blown 50 hp kit for around $2500.

Ignore the overspray on the tires. I'm cleaning it up tomorrow after I ride. It almost just wipes off but some spots I have to use some Simple Green to get it off. Looking forward to this weather for some riding and if any other guys want to ride we should get a group together!

2006, the bike has the factory front still on it, so my buddy say mileage is 6-7
Those are a lot of add on goodies there. It all depends on what someone is willing to pay for it. If it's in good shape and with all of the extras I'd expect to pay $5,000 to $6,000 for it. Of course that is a rough estimate. For perspective purposes I bought my DRZ with only 13 miles on it. The guy had it listed for $5,000 and I told him I had $4,000 cash ready to go. He accepted my offer. On the way to get the bike he got 3 phone calls offering him much more than I did and I was surprised to see that he was man enough to hold to what was agreed on.
Bottom line is I got a practically brand new one that was bone stock for $4k, but that was an unheard of deal.
I'd love to ride with you and I'm sure that DRZ is way quick. Worst case you can trade him and then earn some extra friends by selling me some of the go fast goodies. [Beer]

I dont think I could bring myself to pay 6000 for a drz. For that kind of money in todays market I could get a nice KTM 530, factory legal and ride circles around a drz, add a little more and get a 690. Heck I have a KTM 625 sxc with dirt and sm setup I would sell you for 4500.
There is nothing wrong with the drz but just find a good deal on one, bolt ons are not worth their full value used, most of them do nothing but "look cool".
Make sure to find out how it was built, was it built for track or street?

T-Giv, how is the Drz? I had a Ltz400 back in AK and it ripped. Granted it was loaded with mods. I have thought about buying one, but am afraid it's going to be a turd up here at 5280. Do any riding on the hwy?

I've heard its become harder through the DMV, otherwise a Crf450x would be a good build.
the law reads that it needs head light, tail light, brake light, horn, mirror and DOT tires. The hardest part will be getting it titled. After a vin inspection and DOT inspection by CSP and a bonded title with notarized bill of sale, i should be all gravy. The difference between the X and R as far as I know is the X has a wide ratio trans and the R is close ratio. I just wish that it held more than 700cc of oil so I didn't have change as often but it's no biggie.

Curious to hear how it goes. If its as smooth as it sounds maybe I'll get me a CRF.
I already had the bike and just asked the lady at the DMV for info. This is what she gave and just finishing up. I have $300 into it and will have it done for under $600.

that thing looks wicked I love the look of the drz. The DR650 looked dorky to me at first but it fell into my lap for almost nothing ( I traded it for a win model 70 and not a very nice one) and it needed some work. This was my adventure bike, had to sell it when my wife got the cancer crap. Chemo was still pricey even with awesome railroad insurance.
When things bounce back I'm going to get a ktm 690.
ktm 950 super enduro.

Those KTMs look pretty beast! Some of the guys I ride with swear by them. Weather has been fantastic for this time of year. Still been doing a fair bit of riding. Anyone else still out riding?
What mind of speeds are you guys getting on the highway?
I'm geared way down on both of my bikes. I only run it about 65 cruising. I top out around 83. Stock gearing I hit around 100.
So plenty of speed for highway. Kinda kicking around the idea of a supermoto

Just convert that DRZ you have already. Lace up some wheels and tires and you're set. Otherwise I'm selling my 07 400 SM for cheap to get another Honda! Hit me up if you're interested.

Just picked up a 2012 WR450F FI. Gonna start getting it ready for a title and some Sumo shoes for it. It should be done, hopefully, in a few months.

Actually it was pretty easy, just money. Went to El Paso CSP, today, cause there was no wait. Around Denver, was a 3 week wait for inspection. Anyways, Cdot asked the trooper about if I needed reflectors, which I didn't have, he told me to put reflective tape on. And that it passed inspection. Cdot, wanted to make sure it was ok. He was the only buzzkill, but the trooper wasn't having it and passed it. Super simple. Went to the DMV here in aurora, just took time and $600. Plated and titled. I was afraid of the horror stories, but it was simple. Riding on Sunday with a bunch of guys. Pm if you want to join.
