This is mostly for the Glock fanboys. You've been warned, please refrain from trash talking (too much) on my choice in pistol. I currently have a Gen3 Glock 22 that I use as my daily carry gun and if I get on Jeffco I think it will be my duty pistol as well. But my question is, should I get rid of it and get the Gen4? Is it really all the much better? I was even thinking of stepping down to the 17 (9mm) considering my brother who I'll be living with soon has a M&P in 9mm and we could then go halves on bulk 9mm ammo, instead of him getting 9 and me getting .40.
Thanks! [Beer]

What is this getting rid of a gun to get a different one talk?

Oooh touche! Diversity! [Coffee] Okay, so let's remove the get rid of part and now I pose the question: Should I shelf the Gen3 and use the Gen4 as my daily piece?

Sorry, that was stupid of me to even think of! The more the merrier! [Tooth]

Keep it until the dept. you get on with tells you differently. Why spend money on a newer glock when you already have a glock? You're thinking like a beemer driver, focus. New is not always better or a sounder investment.

Exactly. If it works, run it.

Well I know that Jeffco pretty much lets you run anything from 9 to .357, it's all pretty much your choice from what I know. And no, I'm atypical with being a beemer driver, I don't like the look of the '06-'10 3-series. [Coffee]
But thanks. I'll just stick with old trustworthy!

If you want to shoot 9mm just get a barrel conversion.

Is it that simple? I thought that the 9mm and .40S&W mags were different too, thus different mag wells and feeding.

BBl, mags and possibly ejector. During the Ban years we took 40 s&w mags then tweaked the feed lips to allow use of 9mm, giving a higher than 10 round capacity. That was for those not savvy enough to have purchased mags and other item prior to 94.

Really? A buddy of mine who has been on for a while, I could have sworn he uses a Sig in .357 load. Maybe I was mistaken on that.

if u get the other one, just make sure you mark your mags differently. I'd hate to see u in a situation where u do a reload and find out it's the wrong caliber when you need it the most...

Easiest conversion would be to .357 Sig. Here is the barrel for it, oh, and the rounds go right into your existing mags. [Beer]

Keep the glock and get a 9mm lonewolf conversion barrel from 40-9, best of both worlds..... practice with 9mm and 40 cal for home defense....or practice.

Just my two cents, I carry a glock 19 and have shot both the gen 3 and 4 a lot. For my money the gen 3 is the way to go. I know things change a bit in .40. I am also a big fan of 9 rather than 40. Cheaper to shoot, faster follow up shots, and with good ammo has similar displacement. I have yet to shoot anything that makes me want to change from a 3rd gen 17 or 19. Again, just my opinion.

Or... Just stick to your 9 and get some custom work done...

This is of course only because I can't talk you into a P30.

The lonewolf barrel conversion for the g22 doesnt need an extractor change, but the 9mm brass ejects more sporadically than 40. I liked the conversion so much that I went to 9mm and have never looked back.

Though I have seen a gen4 g34 run flawlessly for several thousand rounds my gen4 g19 didn't. I went through several springs and an ejector before getting rid of it. Gen4 slide is also thicker and more top heavy. Gen3 or earlier ftw.

You mean 40... I have a G22. And who said you can't talk me into a P30? Did I say that? If I did, well, I was lying. [Flower]

Rusty,
Thanks for that advice. I love the Gen3 22, I think it's a well built gun, very robust, and I'm even thinking about a new trigger (http://www.glocktriggers.com/products/haley/) to help improve it's capabilities. [Beer] I might just stay with my current Glock and plan on using that as my daily CC and (fingers crossed) when the time comes, my daily duty weapon.

If you're not dead set on the $150 kit you linked to above, then may I recommend a 3.5# Ghost Rocket trigger connector (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=25315/Product/GHOST-3-5-CONNECTOR)? It took me about 30 mins to install myself (it took a little tuning to get perfect) and has made a WORLD of difference for my Glock 19. Trigger pull is lighter, crisper, and "feels" better to me. This little $12 connector has helped me shoot much more accurately and consistently. [Beer]

You really need to talk with the Dept. armor once you onboard. Modifying duty pistols are generally a bad .. did I mention BAD idea? Much like civi's dealing with modded guns in a shooting situation, you could put yourself and the department at risk by running a not factory weapon.

Honestly, for what you're talking about, don't dork with a conversion. Save your pennies, pick up a G17 or 19 (Gen 3's are my preference). If you go with the 17, your holsters and such will support both the 22 and the 17.

As advised, mark your mags. This is a good practice as it stands, but in this case you can take advantage of avoiding a murphy like mistake

JeffCO certainly has an approved list, and aftermarket mods are not allowed (Department policy). There are a few holdovers of course when some firearms were allowed, but which no longer are. They will give you a current list when you get to that point.

If you want to get a new gun then, fine, but I would not base all my decisions on a supposed at this point. FWIW, modifying carry weapons related to increased liability is pure hogwash. Has a LOT more to do with the armorer having parts in stock to work on the guns than anything else. Some of the guns that left the approved list were prone to breakage and wear.

Not sure why you would be stepping "down."

Read this if you have not already. This will answer a lot of your questions.

Do nothing. Change nothing. The G22 is so common in LE for a reason. It works.

If you feel the need to do something, practice more with what you have and/or take a class from RW Swainson. I recommend both.
