I was just looking around on the Boyd site, mostly looking for a stock for a 96 Swede, when I came across an unfinished Nutmeg Laminate M1 Garand stock set...for $65! Now, I better tell the wife what I ordered...[ROFL1] Even when you add shipping, this is the same price as just a walnut buttstock, without shipping. I realize this won't look original, but I have a .308 Garand that I had built that has a walnut stock, and since the gun isn't original anyway I'm thinking I'll put it in this laminate stock and save the walnut. If anyone else is interested, here's the link...

Just keep in mind that Boyds M1 stocks are rather fat, and the wood will be much larger around the buttplate and ferrules than you think. You might need or want to get a small block plane and shape it down some, but some guys like the fatties. I had a Boyds set and sold it to a guy who wanted the heavier stock for a target rifle. But $65 is a killer price!

I prefer the stocks with the thicker wrist. I have a couple of the Big Red birch M14 stocks for this reason. I have pretty big mitts (my G20 fits just fine) so it works for me.
And it was $65![Coffee]
I just hope it looks as good as yours when I'm done, rondog.
