View Full Version : Rock Island 1911
Does anyone know of a local shop that happens to carry these 1911's? I have been looking at them and from what I read, they are good to go For the price. Have not been able to locate one local so I can take a look at it. One other question, I am new to 1911's. I was wondering if the RIA 1911's can be upgraded? Meaning, can you put new trigger assemblies in them, match barrels etc...I think I read that most 1911 parts fit, but not sure. Any input would be appreciated, and have a gret day [Beer]

saw them at firing line in Aurora for 399.99. I wanted to get one. this was about 1 month ago.
Thats a great price. You know if they are compatible with most 1911's?
Big R Farm and Ranch in Elizabeth carries RIA's, I've bought two there.
5280 Armory has them. So does Green Mountain Guns.

I have a GI model that has a bunch of WWII Colt parts on it. The RIA is essentially the same as a Series 70 Colt. No wierd parts.

All standard 1911 parts interchange. First thing is ash can the stock extractor, they won't hold correct tension for very long.
I have worked a few up that became really nice pistols.
The big thing is economics. By the time and money to doll them up you can buy a Springy or Colt.
For some it is easier to drop a bill or two here and there than to drop the mass cash for a higher teir item.
Decent for the money.
My Colt WWII repro and my RIA Colt clone, that has WWII Colt parts on it. I had to have Bert fit the hammer and grip safety, but the other parts dropped in.
I can use one in each hand and shoot shit up like Bruce Willis now! But I haven't figured out how to make 'em shoot 30 rounds each without reloading......

Dang, locally for $399? Well, that just moved up the list a couple notches...

I've had two RIA Tacticals and they functioned flawlessly. Both were more accurate than I can hold as well. My advice would be to pay a little extra and pop for a Tactical. It would have all the extras that you'd want to add already.

If I needed another 1911 I'd give some serious thought to this one:

But hi-cap .45 1911's have HUGE, fat grips. Changes the whole dynamic of the pistol IMO.

What, do you have tiny hands like that guy in the old Burger King commercial ? [LOL]
The double stack 1911s just take a little getting used to. [Tooth]
And they will give you a manly sag when carried concealed........ask Irving if you don't understand....

For the money you can't go wrong with a RIA 1911. I have 2 tacticals, both havr been flawless. They come from the factory with beavertails installed (some strange cut, the only downside I csn see but functional) speed hammer, lightened trigger, lowered and flared ejection port and the slide cut for novaks.
The only changes made to mine have been a GI guide rod and plug, wolff 18.5 lb recoil spring, hogue geips and a single side thumb safety, out of preferrnce not necessity.
