When you take your car to get serviced, how do you know the mechanics aren't driving it like it's a getaway car in a heist movie? This 2010 Camaro SS driver figured out one very clever way: he placed a voice recorder in the car to capture the dealership employees driving and working on the car.

He's probably glad he did — his recording captures audio of mechanics beating the crap out of the car.

According to the video and the description on YouTube, this driver had a gear grinding problem at parking lot speeds and so he took it to Best Chevrolet in Easley, South Carolina. But the audio captures the technicians "cutting ass" in the car at high speeds for 20 minutes and joking about other times they've done the same.

"He drives like a fucking maniac when he gets in one," one employee said to another about the tech who drove the car.

But that isn't the worst part. That comes when the shop is apparently describing how to bill the customer and charge General Motors for warranty work as well.

"If it was me, I'd write this fucker up at him buying a clutch for it... him buying a clutch disk, let them warranty the pressure plate, bill them in on two days later so I'll get paid to put a clutch in it and then get paid to put a pressure plate in it.

Really nice, Easley Chevrolet. We hope this driver's problem gets resolved soon, because it wouldn't look too good for the dealership if this went to court.

Check out some of the responses on the Camaro5 forums. The video is also ranked pretty highly on Reddit at the moment.

Unfortunately I suspect this is more common than not.

I know a guy through my wife who works at a high end sports car dealership. Long story short he was trying to sell my dad a car with low miles that was babied one elderly owner blah blah blah. My wife is friends with his wife who happened to post pictures on her facebook of a roadtrip they took in the car through the mountains, including a pic of the speedo hovering around 150, my dad went another route....

Brought my brand new GTI under warranty 5 years ago to a dealership for some noise in the tranny (DSG) at low speed. When I was asked by the service tech if I was waiting for the car, I told him no, and my wife was going to pick me up.

Wife is running late, I decide to walk 5-6 blocks to a fast food to get some food. While I am seating there, I see the GTI with the service tech and another guy pull on the lot at fast speed, make a hand brake stop and a short burn out!!!! I wait for them to park, storm out of the joint, walk to the guy, get my car key off his hands, drive back to the dealership with the service tag still hanging from the rear view mirror, get to the service bay and honk until i get their attention and the attention of the clients waiting into the cafe/lounge area.... When the service manager ask me what the deal was he got an earful! And when he asked where is service advisor was: his face turned from pinkish, to white, to red in 5 second.

As a result: Extended warranty for free, new DSG clutch, new set of tire.... 1 service tech out of a job.

Wow, why is it so hard to find a good, honest mechanic... We always hear about the problems, but I can't remember the last time I heard something good about a mechanic... wow. Hope he gets restitution.

As much as I hate to say it, I still, to this day would gladly kick the shit out of the service manager if I ever saw him in person no, ifs ands or but's about it.

I went there a month or so ago to look at what kind of cars they had available. I stood around for over 10 minutes in the lobby before I was helped. When I asked about the FR-S, he told me they had just sold the only one they had, and that I should probably go to a Subaru dealer to see the BRZ, since they are the same thing. His words, not mine.

Maybe because most scion buyers are tire kickers [Tooth] Most import sales cherry pick - they prefer selling Truck and SUV for the larger commission.

Took my car in to have some exterior blemished repaired. I get my car back 1 week later and the first thing the tech says is, "your car is FAST."
a year later I am having some poor sound issues with my speaker system(no sound on drivers side) and have yet to take it to anyone because of asshat hot rodding it around.

Factory speakers or aftermarket? If the latter, take the panel off and re-attach the wires to the speaker (observe polarity or you'll lose low end response); they come off all the time if not done right. It's very easy to do yourself. If the former, get new ones. ETA: if you have some kind of factory-amplified system (e.g. Bose), you may have other issues.

Yup,this crap goes on all the time at the 'ships.
And thats's even before the car gets sold!!

The Ford dealer I worked at back in NY they would take brand new Saleen's and SVT's and beat the living crap out of them on the PDI and think nothing of it-gotta make sure it dont break before the customer gets it.What a bunch of ftards!!

We had one guy get locked up for takeing a NYSPD car out on the highway at 150mph.Normaly if your road testing for a high speed concern on those you have to have pre authorization, plus theres another trooper out on the road with you.

Yea shady shit goes on at the 'ships for sure!!

Factory. For shits n grins yes I did check if my balance settings were off. Also, volume setting is on full blast, but sound coming out is incredibly low. Anyone know of a good tech in Fort Collins?

I ALWAYS wait when I am getting service...factory or otherwise. I am that guy that hovers around watching everything.

The one time I didn't wait around, a dude at Peerless Tires put studs in my winter tires that were 2 sizes too big. When pressed about it he said "no man, those are the right size." Even after I told him I had studded maybe a hundred tires in my life.

No one there would admit they put the wrong studs in even after I showed them the spec sheet for the tires and a print out of stud sizes and colors. They still wouldn't give me new tires.

The car was unsafe to drive with those long studs. It would almost spin out on 20mph turns. The only thing touching the ground was the studs. My remedy? And not a great one... Do some donuts on dry pavement to grind those suckers down. They were so long I didn't even burn up any of the soft winter tire rubber. They still weren't perfect but it made them short enough that the car was driveable.

PS - don't EVER go to the Peerless on Jewel and Sheridan.

Am I the only one here who doesn't really care that much if someone at a dealership hot rods my car?

I bought a fast car for a reason. To be driven fast and bring a smile to my face when I'm doing it.

If it's in someone elses hands who probably enjoys cars why not let it bring them some joy too. It's not like they're going to put an exorbitant amount of wear and tear on the car in the small time they're joy riding it, and if they wreck it well I get a new car... Win win in my book.

They melted the clutch and then tried to sell him a replacement. I've let my buddies hot-rod my car when I had a fast one, but some dillhole at the dealership burning my tires and ruining the clutch would be a much different story.

So I suppose that reasoning would apply if you had a hot girlfriend too?[Bang]

What the techs did was violate a trust and integrity. You take your car in for service it is supposed to leave in better condition than it arrived.

Somebody drives anything I own like that without my consent we are going to have a very serious problem.
There are somethings you just don't do.

WTFx1000000????

Seriously? Autos are a part of you. Can't believe you don't mind some tool messing with your private property. How about a few chips on the paint or a couple small dents while they rod it and stop off at Wendy's for a burger. You assume you get a new car. What about a fender bender? Never get that paint match, never the same after an accident. These days- paper trail showing accidents. Not good for resale- Carfax. Kinda like someone taking out my Barrett 82 and shooting the hell out of it, messing with the scope, scraping the park on the receiver, not cleaning the gun after putting a couple mags thru it. How about your wife/girlfriend? You mind someone else messing with her? Just saying... some people value their cars/guns as much as their companions.

Cars aren't women. Women are people which have a choice in their actions. If my girl did something that's that and it's my decision to decide where to drop her off.

I would be angry over a chip or a dent or a french fry between my seat not going to lie. If it was in an accident... Well no dealership would want to stand the litigation I would bring upon them so I'm not really worried about that. I would get a new car if anything major happened. If a part breaks? They're going to fix it and I get some new things and know that it was a weak link. Also, I drive a car that was somewhat expensive new. If I did get a dent on my car... Well I'm sure my negotiation and persuasion skills would make it worth it as the car's going to get that anyways... It is colorado and there are always tons of rocks on the rock. I've taken quite a few in my helmet riding my bike.
