View Full Version : Java keeps restarting my computer
Hey guys, I tried doing a quick Google search, and only came up with people having more serious issues. At least once a day, my computer starts itself over again, and I lose everything I kept up. I am constantly getting pop-ups that Java has an update, so I think it is Java doing this. What is the remedy here? Uninstall and reinstall Java?
Thank you in advance.

I had a similar problem with Java on my PC. I uninstalled it. Haven't really missed it.
do you have an anti-virus program?
did you install malware bytes?
I think you may have a virus, I got something similar a few months back.
are you getting a lot of pop-ups or when you do a google search it goes to random websites that aren't anywhere near your search?
Windows Automatic Update will do this. there is a way to turn it off, probably just need to go google it.

Shoot me a PM...
If it is really Java restarting your machine, there are some easy ways to stop it from updating.

Do you get the UAC popup right before the Java updater starts? I'd find it hard to believe that Java would be doing that unless something is corrupt. I'd uninstall it and reinstall. If you look through event viewer under the system and application logs, any errors/warnings that correlate with the times your computer is randomly shutting down? Does your machine actually shut down cleanly like you told it to shutdown/restart or does it just die?

That was going to be another question. Do I NEED Java?

Yes to anti-virus. No to pop-ups and Google question.

I have a problem with Dell wanting to update constantly as well.

I haven't looked through the event viewer. I believe this computer has a history of things not downloading correctly, then effecting everything that I try to download after that. I don't actually download a lot of programs, but I know I have had this problem before.
Thanks for the help so far guys. I'll wait till I get the next pop-up for the Dell thing and post exactly what it is.

I really hate Java. It is IMO the #1 method of inadvertently getting a virus despite taking every other precaution.

But, but, but, Java was supposed to make everything better, easier, and more compatible! [Rant1] I swear I gotta use the control panel to fixilate different engines for different vendor's software all too often.

Somebody smarter than me will have to answer that. I don't. I don't know what it did for me but, whatever it was, I haven't missed it a bit. And my computer runs much better.

Okay thanks. I'll ask Rucker61. :p

My dad had the same problem a few months ago. His fix was to do a system restore from a 30 day old save and then completely remove Java. He seems to be working okay now.
I've removed Java and Dell Support as they have been the ongoing problems. We'll see how it goes. The computer restarted two times since I posted this thread. Makes it difficult to leave the computer for more than 45 minutes or so, and come back to what I was doing when it is all gone.

Usually the task that restarts the computer leaves an entry in the System Event Log. Does anything there give a clue as to what is happening?

I apologize for not being up on my computer knowledge, but could you tell me how to access that log?

Oh no problem.
Open up the control panel. Then go to administrative tools, then open up the event viewer.
You'll have the options on the left, open them all up until you find System and then click that.
In the middle/right, you'll see a bunch of event entries. Start going down the list by time until you find something that makes "sense" in the description about the restart. It's kind of educated guesswork but there may be a clue in it. If you're having no luck finding any clues, there's a way to export that log and you could send it to me in email to take a look.
Well, there are a ton of errors throughout the day, but I can't make out what they mean. There are a few "Criticals" and "Warnings" as well. The source of the Critical Power is "Kernal Power (Event ID 41)." The source for the Errors seem to accompany "Ntfs (Event ID 55)," "Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider (Event ID 7000)," "Distributed COM (Event ID10016)," "EventLog (Event ID 6008)."
I don't know what any of that means though.

Not likely its is Java causing this...
I had a power supply problem that did the same thing. To low amperage supply for the video card I was running. It did almost the exact same thing.
Swapped out the supply with a bigger one and all fixed.

An event 41 only means the machine restarted via crash.
Irving you have a couple of options here: Keep asking guys on a gun forum to help with something they dont understand. Get some help from professionals. Or fiddle with it yourself.
I could cut a barrel on my own, but I would rather take it to Bert and have it done properly. Let the bread bakers bake the bread...

Yeah, the kernel power issue and the fact that it seems to be a hard crash rather than a software directed shutdown does mean... buy one of us computer folks that's local a case of beer. I'm a bit too far away but surely someone is closer to take a quick look.

I asked to see if it was something I can remedy myself. Sounds like it isn't. Nothing to be upset about.
Looks like it is the Event 41. I think this is what is happening. Is something like this repairabe, or is it time to start shopping?
"The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition."

It's your fuel filter...
I'm not all that computer savy, just throwing that out there to see if it's a possibility. But yes take it to someone who is knowledgeable in computers.
But if it runs out of gas-check the filters [Tooth]

OK then Nick Burns.
Irving, if someone hasn't offered already, I'd be glad to help take a look remotely via Webex or Teamviewer. It could be something simple. I'm really a mainframe sorta guy, but not too shabby with little ol PC's when necessary. :D Send me a PM if you like and we can set something up.

any form of a *nix distro will solve this problem...I frigg'n hate jaba the hutt and the damn developers who ride in on it.
No one has offered to look at it remotely, that would be cool of you. Thanks for the offer.
