View Full Version : walmart vs PSA
Ok so i've been looking at a rifle to start a small build since i havn't built one from scratch and dont want to get in over my head, also since I don't have all the tools yet. I am not doing a full build but would like to add some stuff, change some stuff, and generally just get to know the rifle inside and out. that way when I want to build one from scratch i have something to compare it to later.
I was looking at the Sig M400 Enhanced or a PSA rifle. I have a P226 and the sig seems well made but I guess I just am conflicted since the AR is now sold at walmart and wonder if that means the quality would suffer. In the same price point was the Pal state arm versions as well. I acctually like the magpul furniture on the sig and was going to go with that stuff anyway ssssooooo is it a good platform to start on or should I stay away from it and bump the pricepoint to get something better to start with like a colt or .....
opinions / thoughts / help for a new guy on the sig vs the psa. I have an AR10 currently that the wife has taken possetion of so this one will be for me

Dicks is selling the Troy carbine with a Troy alpha rail for $799, the rail has a built in flip up sight and a MBUS rear. Pretty sweet deal but ends in a few days.
If I had to choose between the two you posted I'd go with the sig
oh good to know , thanks. If I do go with the sig i wont buy it from walmart because I want the black so I assume its around the same price even at other places.

Don't even. WM has almost every LGS beat by an easy $75-100, easy.
aagghhh the moral delema...
so aside from that the sig is a good choice?

The Sig is a great choice. And Its no different buying it from Wallyworld as anywhere else, going to be the same gun, just cheaper. BTW, Wallyworld is IMHO the only thing keeping the prices even remotely in check on these rifles. If you (like me) believe that gun control is just a matter of time, and are "getting one before I cant" then be thankful for Wallyworld, otherwise the less scrupulous gun stotres out there would be jacking the prices up on a regular, and some already are. To Wallyworld its just a game of numbers- they sell the crap out of those rifles at these price points and and long as those things are flying off the shelf, they will keep them around.

The m400 is on WM's Black Friday deals. I will tell you this--over the summer Jensens was about $50 cheaper on the LE6920 than WM

I purchased a palmetto upper for my AR build, the upper is fantastic and for the price I have noticed no difference in quality from other AR's that I have handled or bought. My first AR is an LMT carbine, honestly there is not much noticeable difference between the two. If I recall correctly, FN makes the barrels for Palmetto. If you can wait a while for the palmetto, then I would recommend the Palmetto, however I have not dealt with Walmart's AR's. I can only recommend the PSA.
On my 3 rd psa upper. First ar was a bushmaster.

Heresy, i tell ya. Happy to see you realize there is little if any difference, outside finish and fit between most AR's on the market. Cover the mfg name on the lower receiver and most would be hard pressed to tell you who made it.
There has been a rash of vendors with $6-800 AR's for sale. I am wondering if these mfg are selling them at lower price point's to move inventory, to generate more operating capital.

You're in the Springs, give Kevin at LiveFire Armory a shout. He can set you up with whatever you're looking for, probably at the best price, and you'll be supporting a local business and nice folks! He's probably going to be at the Sertoma show tomorrow (I would assume), and knows his stuff (parts to put together, or pre-built)
