whoever came up with the idea was a genius, a 22# bird done in just over an hour, you get to relax outside, the house isn't 90 deg. when your done and it is loaded with juice. pure genius.

Make sure you do it on a wooden deck next to and under a large dead tree that over hangs your house...

If you're gonna do it, do it hardcore.

We did it in a garage once... Now that I think about it, my family wasn't that smart...

Deep frying the turkey is the bomb. SOP for us for the last 15 yrs. We do it in the shop when weather is bad. Key - be careful and have a steel shop bldg.[Tooth][Tooth]

I've fried quite a few of them and that is definitely the way a turkey was made to be cooked.

I have done enough of them that I am fairly certain I know what the hell I'm doing. That being said, I had given some consideration to doing one in the garage a few years back because it was colder than a well diggers ass outside that day. Needless to say, better judgement got the best of me and I just did it outside in the back yard where I usually do it.

Every year I say I'm going to do this and every year I cheap out and don't want to spend the coin on the fryer and oil.

Damm that looks good though.

We think it is worth it but damn that 3 gal jug of peanut oil is expensive.

I hear ya. $36 bucks at Wally World and the cheapest fryer was 59. Then you gotta buy the bird and for 2 adults and a kid it just doesn't pencil.

That is why I have not done it the last two years. They are tasty though.

I just use clear frying oil, 25.00 bucks at sams, and I do mine and a couple of my friends and charge them 10.00 bucks apiece, so it only costs me the bird and 6.00 bucks. then I save the oil and do another one at chistmas.

A buddy of mine has an open thanksgiving party, usually has 20-40 people show up. 3 fried turkeys and a keg. Always a good time.

And this year Bird Dog BBQ in the Springs was selling smoked turkeys if you preordered, not especially expensive IIRC. Maybe next year.

Too lazy to deep fry a turkey. I just toss it in the oven and then go away for four hours.

the price isnt all that bad, we used our oil and fryer all summer for chicken wings, chicken nuggets, fries, potato chips and i have heard deep fried pork chops are pretty good as well

Deep fried turkey, I'll take all the deliscious dark meat for myself. No Gravy. Juicy as it may be white still requires gravy. Friends and I usually just go for the jar stuff works easier in a deep fry situation.

We did a friend turkey breast. No point in using that much oil. Also did two regular turkeys a spiral cut ham and fillet mignon beef tenderloin!

Throw some snickers and twinkies in there when you are done

I fried our turkey too. We scored and got a large electric Charmglow fryer from one of our neighbors for $10 at a garage sale. I recommend the electric because it pretty much removes the danger from frying a turkey. Propane uses an open flame which heats the oil up quicker but you also have a time bomb waiting to go off. The electric one we have is nice also because we can use the basket to do crab legs too. Just fill it with water instead of oil and fill it up with crab legs so it's much easier than trying to do it on the stove. I did a 10lb turkey breast for Thanksgiving yesterday and everyone was amazed at how juicy, tender and flavorful it was. That and it took less than an hour instead of 4x that long in the oven. On top of all of that my wife LOVED how her and her mom had the double oven plus the microwave for preparing side dishes. Everything got done at about the same time and there was no warm/lukewarm food to worry about reheating or eating cold. I'm telling you... this is the ONLY way to fly!

Heck, no need to thaw it either. Just dump that baby in while you're on the deck under the tree ... [ROFL2]

Same here! Everybody was ranting and raving about how good it was. A family friend roasted one also and there was lots left of her turkey. Very little of mine. Injecting with marinate is also key.
