View Full Version : Iron Curtain Creations... ?
Anybody have any experience with them? I am looking around for a builder for a couple AK74 kits, I know of the usual nationally known guys but if someone local could do them with the same level of detail that would be great. I was going to attempt to do these myself but seeing that they are mint unissued kits I am thinking of sending them out to have them professionally done.

IF you have a complete kit with a bbl that is already drilled & head spaced, it should not take more than 1-1.5hrs to have a ready to operate (Safely) AK. That does not include refinishing, or any other work (polish H/T/S) etc. based on hos hrly rate not bad.

I have talked to him before and he definitely seems to be a detail oriented guy also a buddy of mine had him do a krink build and it turned out very nice, from the one build I saw he does good work and seems to be priced in line with other high end builders

I have a recent kit so all of the barrel parts need to be removed from the stubs and repopulated to a new barrel. I already broke one punch trying to drive out a gas block pin so I stopped right there and put it back in the box before I did any serious damage. :D I can see the rest of the build not taking a lot of time with the right tools. I am thinking these will be my only AKs so even though I would love to try to tackle them myself I am also thinking I would like these to be perfect.

So far no public horror stories though? I think I read somewhere that he used to work for another builder?

That's what the hearsay is- jreifsch80 would be the guy that knows. But from what I read on the ak boards he is well spoken of.
I have built several FALs doing my own parkerizing on the stove and using other back woods methods.. (you can only do so much living in a condo) but the AK with the additional tools needed for the pins and rivets is making me think I should just send it out. I know about canted sight issues and other things.. I don't have a problem paying for the build as I know what kind of labor goes into it, I just want to be sure I am going to end up with something great. :) Thanks!
Plus as a local business owner I like to support local business when I can.

He's a vetted vendor on theakforum.net so that says alot, become a member there and look at his sub forum if you want but as far as I know he does good work regardless of his previous employment (I don't believe he's the former builder from Lancaster but I might be wrong)

I'm a member over there already.. how I missed his subforum is beyond me.. Thanks!

One thing about all the pins and rivets is that they are hell on punches, especially when getting started. Nail sets works great to get them moving. They're cheap and much less likely to break. Once you've got it moving with the set it can be punched out. You can get a lot more directed force with one of them.

If you have built a Fal you can build an AK. the neat thing about AK's is unlike a Fal you can use rocks and boulders and big-assed pry bars.[shithitsfan][gohome]

Sticks and stones may break our bones, but we can still build with them...[ROFL2]
yep, got the one started with a nail set and finished it with the punch.. Broke the tip of the nail set on the second pin and then shattered 2 punches. They just don't make them like they used to.. Trying to do all of this in my condo without a workbench. :)
OK Jerry, I'll admit it.. I'm just to scared.. :)

Before I met Jim and started building with him I used my basement floor as my work bench, it really gives a Khyber pass feel to be sitting on the ground building ak's lol
