View Full Version : Hints for writing your Representatives

You know I think we would all like to give our representatives (state and federal) a nice Christmas present[pileoshit] and let them know just how we feel about their views and their holiness.
But if we just vent we will get nowhere.
I would like to think after 20+ years of writing documents at a state level I have learned a couple of things that may be beneficial:

DO Give your full name and contact information.
DO Keep it brief and factual.
DO Keep it limited to a specific topic.
DO Remind them that they work for you.
DO Remind them that they took an oath to uphold and abide by the Constitution.
DO Remind them that you vote.
DO Pay attention to spelling and grammar.
DO Be respectful.

DO NOT take it to a personal level.
DO NOT insult or berate.
DO NOT swear.
DO NOT threaten.
DO NOT rant.

The better grounded and articulated you come across, the more credible your stance.

Of course if I were to reply to Perslutters reply posted here I would shatter all of the above.
Arrogant, elite prick.

Thanks for the tips. I've always followed my own rules which I believe you listed.

Can I send each one of these to them separately? :)

There's a hierarchy of what types of contact carry however much weight:

Emails count for nothing. Anybody can cut, paste, and click "send."
Phone calls and faxes count for a lot.
Written letters count, more than faxes but less than phone calls. Anybody can cut, paste, and click "send." Putting a stamp on it goes a little father with the recipient.

And when the man says to be specific, he's not joking. A letter that starts with "Vote NO on HR 12345" has more effect on how the dumbass will vote on HR 12345 than a general "Vote against bad stuff" letter.

The only threat I would make is to vow to vote against him, donate to their competitor, and to encourage everyone you know to do the same.

Thank you very much BPTactical. Your hints have been extremely helpful. Everyone needs to be writing/contacting their representatives. Sitting by doing nothing will not help.

I'm glad you posted this. I am planning on being very active in trying to defeat any gun control legislation on a State or national level. Enough is enough.

Bert,

Here is what I email our state legislative members....

Mr ............,
How do you plan to maintain your oath to protect the constitution of the U.S. regarding, specifically, the 2nd amendment? I know legislation is coming to attack us legal, responsible gun owners, that will basically make all of us criminals and victims. I am quite concerned as a father, husband, business owner and voter. What is your position?

Thank you for your time,
..........

Not enough? I value your opinion. Perhaps a formatted letter could be posted, but I hat to send something that appears simply carbon copied.

capitalize Constitution

1) It should be
2) Draws attention to the word and emphasizes the significance

Thanks for the pointer. I am surprised my IPad didn't do it for me. It is usually pretty good about catching that stuff.
