So... Let's pretend for a minute... That this happens...
A 1 ounce coin worth $1 Trillion.... Would then 1 ounce of platinum be worth $1 Trillion or am I insane?

The big deal here is not the denomination stamped on the coin, but the thought that the Federal Reserve is gonna mint one, two, heck a hundred?
Anytime these are made it is the same as the govmt printing a trillion dollars. The value of the American dollar becomes worth less on the international market. This in turn increases inflation and in essence you personally just took a pay cut as your money is now worth less.
Even if one gets made consider your money worth almost 10% less than it was the day before.

I'm aware of the big deal... I'm just curious if I should buy some platinum or not...

platinum is pretty expensive so resale is a bitch . stick with silver and copper , most folks just wont drop the cash on even a 1/10oz gold/platinum

Just reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons with the trillion-dollar bill. And just as ludicrous.
Zimbabwe tried something like that and it crippled their economy

NPR interviewed a prior coin designer for the States quarter series, and he suggested that the only appropriate face for this coin would be Ponzi.

We're fucked anyways. Might as well have a couple of trillion dollar coins floating around.

Obama deserves his face to be on a coin... Fucking stuck up bastard.
Eh... as soon as they mint it, some Armslist jerk will snap up the remaining inventory and resell it for 10 trillion. Thereby starting a new flurry of "Fuck Armslist" threads bemoaning the good ol' days when we could buy it for a mere trillion.

Is the price of $1 Trillion firm or obo?
If obo, I'll give ya $500 for it. [LOL]
If they would just change the currency system over to PMAGS and 9mm plinking rounds, we could return to world leader in the currency market.
"Three gallons of milk, 2 loaves of bread, and a copy of Playboy... that'll be 15 rounds FMJ please. Thank you, come again..."
Fiats would go for what... 3-4 PMAGS apiece?

It is being discussed all over the net. A fellow at Volokh think it would be sort of legal but impossible to challenge.

This fellow thinks it's okay.

Personally, I think it should have a the face of Osama Bin Laden on it since it could crater the economy worse than any terrorist attack. Our currency is a real confidence game. It depends on everybody believing it is real. If they stop believing we'd have hyper-inflation. Maybe Tinkerbell should be on it.

I would venture to say, in the current world economy all currencies are a shell game

Is a quarter worth it's weight? Or a dollar coin?
Assigned values and actual values are different things.

My bad, my sarcasm meter is off today.
I prefer unobtainum coins...
"The coin is then deposited in the fed and boom the treasury has two trillion more to spend"
More like boom no one ever lends you money again and your money is instantly toilet paper. How this could get any traction with any group scares me.
Simpsons did it.
Best quote from the episode -
Homer: It’s hard to believe there’s a place worse than America, but we found it!
Mr. Burns: Yes, I too feel renewed appreciation for the good old US of A. Oppression and harassment are a small price to pay to live in the land of the free.
Wonder if this will work in a vending machine... FREE SODA FOR EVERYONE!
