View Full Version : I met the most badass person in the history of firearms today...
So there I was, taking my class from a former Spec Ops veteran of both WWII and Vietnam (surprisingly agile for an old guy [Coffee]) and getting my NRA Pistol Instructor Certification (which passed 100% on both exams, yay me!), when another elderly, balding man wearing some sort of "Expert, 1911 600M" patch on his jacket walks into the classroom at Ben Lomond Gun Club. Our training counselor introduces him as none other than Karl Lippard. For those that don't know, Mr. Lippard (pronounced "Leopard") is the man behind the game-changing of the 1911 and modern firearms. He explained it in such a language that as a person who doesn't know about every single minute detail and inner workings of a firearm, it went over my head. But he holds several patents on his firearms technology, several more patents pending, and makes his 1911's with the "toughest metal you can make a gun out of" -his words. He and 3 others are the only people I've ever heard of to have 3/7 (he had I believe 4/6 on 12" steel plate) or more hits on target at 600 meters, open sight, with his 1911. Sometime in the near future, I'll have to look it up, he'll be featured on the Outdoor channel doing just that along with my training counselor, who also accomplished this feat.
For the low-low price of just $3,500 you too can own the best 1911 ever made- the Lippard 1911A2 NCO! Forget Nighthawk, Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat, etc... these truly are a work of art! The trigger, I shit you not, is the smoothest pull I've ever experienced. Quite the gun!

So you were at BLGC late this afternoon? What kinda class was going on? I was wondering what was going on at the clubhouse.
I was out there from just before sundown to dusk, sighting in a new scope on my AR at berm 11. Tried a few shots from an Enfield, but just too dark. Man, it was a cold MF'r out there!!! Can't say I've ever been shooting at 5 degrees before. Had to pick up a document from Bill's house, so I burnt some ammo while I was there.
You didn't read the first sentence Ron? I was doing the NRA Pistol Instructor Cert class... And we did some range time over at the pistol competition range at about 2 or so... It was frigid! If the drive wasn't just at 2 hrs for me, I'd sign up for a membership there.
I'm sorry for your misfortune in having to meet that faggot.
I stopped reading when I noticed and being used twice in the first sentence.
oh i thought you meant someone bad ass like some of these people

A standard pistol of any make has a "Defensive" range of 12 feet to 20 yards. In contrast, A Combat NCO™ is an "Offensive" pistol and is effective from 2 feet to 400 yards. This difference in a combat setting means the battlefield is pushed back; that men survive; that we at last have a superior offensive pistol.
Fuck my purpose built rifle at 400 yards, I think I'm going to take pot shots with my open sighted 1911.

ok so they have designed a nice platform for the 1911, and he uses it to hit targets at over 400 yards, i do not think this qualifies him as the most badass ever, I think that he may be the most badass Ronin has met, but there are more badass for sure
on that note, Ronin seems he will never get past being tortured every time he posts,
Damn. And last week I thought the 85 year old with the cane was bad-ass.
Well, in my mind he still is.
I'm sorry for your misfortune in having to meet that faggot.
Harsh... He seemed really nice, and very knowledgeable.

Have you ever hit anything over 400M with a pistol? This guy did several times. And badass simply for the fact that he completely revolutionized the way 1911's are made. This guy uses dirt to clean his gun!
Just in case anyone is interested. This is for a Sierra 45 Colt JHP (bc of .169) With 5.6g of Bullseye..

What metal is he using?
S7 tool steel.
And yes to your question. I know of a few on the board that have, and could again.
I have never tried 600 though. Seems like a lob shot.

Especially since you need to aim 100 FEET over the bore line to hit (yrds) -- or 120 FEET over the bore to hit (meters).
Trick shooting is interesting...but I don't find it "bad ass". Maybe it's just me.
The guy I respect for how the 1911 is made is John Moses Browning. Tweaks are interesting...but not as monumental as the original challenge. It's a design that has survived the test of time.
Kind of like the M2. [M2]
There is a video, basically puts the pistol in a pre set up brace/mount/catapult. Basically pure 45degree angle. Doing that doesn't do anything that any other handgun set up that way would do. There were some problems with this video. This was after years of his crazy claims but no back up other than "These other Sgt Majors who were spec ops in WW1 but are only 60 wouldn't lie." A lot of his crazy claims about metals come out to normal stuff he's renamed. In any case, shooting off a pre angled bench rest doesn't translate into his claims of an offensive pistol providing not just suppressing fire but accurate hits on target.....
I like in the quote on page 1 that apparently a pistol has a minimum range of 12 feet but his has a minimum of 2ft?
I think I care less about his stupid shit than I do any idiot that actually buys one of his 1911's for >$3k - $6k. I'm sure they are probably good quality at least, but they provide ZERO over what any good STI or other quality 1911 that's been dabbled with to be 100%.
For a good reference and whatnot on his Bull, try here. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/page/5/?s=Karl+Lippard Some of the articles it pulls up are not related, just had his name. I linked to 5th page so some of the original stuff on how he became a popular topic on that website.

What did he do exactly to revolutionize the 1911? Other than his bushing, what else did he make for it, that was original? Seriously, if you're being serious, I have no clue as to what it is that you're talking about. If it is just fitting up the pistol, that's nothing really special.

I've met Karl and seen his pistols made for these long distance shots. There are some interesting changes. They are specialized for this type of shooting. I know a couple of the people that were there when he put 4 out of 6 on steel at 400 yds. I don't doubt their word, but I've never asked what type of (if any) type of gun rest was used. If this capability was needed, I would be talking to Karl. The question as to when this would really be needed. I've done a bit of 100 yd shooting with a pistol simply practicing for a couple of the USPSA classifiers, and it's doable with just about any accurate pistol and lots of rounds down range, but starts falling into the "a little nutty" category. Regardless, Karl did make the shots, and that's pretty amazing stuff. The sighting system is the most interesting IMO.
George... Lol, he's good people. I've known him for years. I'm pretty sure it was just Viet nam and there may have been some post-nam extracurricular activity. What I do know for a fact is that George had dedicated more time to BLGC than probably everyone out there short of Bill and Bebe (the caretakers), and he's been teaching shooting to people for a very very long time.
Well, all's I can say is it was DEFINITELY a cold motherfucker out there yesterday at sundown on range 11. Five degrees per my truck thermometer. My Bert-repaired AR functioned perfectly as did the Nikon P-223 scope I bought from Fist-Gonzo. Got it dialed in to within a couple of clicks before it just got too dark to see anymore.

Tall stories from that crowd to be certain. Entertaining no doubt, but all taken with a grain of salt.
I've never heard George talk anything older than 'Nam.
I did see Karl hit a target at the 600 with his 1911. The target was 5' across.

400 is rough with irons using my ar
Anyone who spends their time hanging around a gun range wearing their self proclaimed civilian medals MUST be a bad ass...If his designs are so revolutionary, then why are we still taking carbines into war and not his 1911's? I'd rather spend more time listening to the shamwow guy than him...

I get trying it simply because you can but then trying to say that it's an effective weapon at that distance is a little much.

I met the guy and wasn't impressed. One of his many claims was that the Winchester white box .45 ACP sold by Wally World is loaded 30% over max pressure. As for the 600 yard shots he had a huge target and a fixture akin to a machine rest. I recall seeing Bob Munden on Impossible Shots hit a standard sized popper offhand at 600 yards. He also hit a popper at either 200 or 400 with an American Arms mini .22 revolver. I've hit 18 by 18" steel plates at 200 yards with a 1911 but certainly not consistantly and never tried any thing farther.
