View Full Version : Please recommend a place to rent firearms with my wife.
Lucky me, looks like I've got my wife very interested in personally owning one or more handguns. I'd like to find some place to take her to rent and shoot a few different models so she can form an opinion of what she likes. Can anybody recommend the best places in the Northern Front Range to go?
We are in Longmont but are looking at places in Denver. (I don't think that Trigger Time rents to non-members).
Places I've found so far are BluCore, The Firing Line, The Shootist, The Silver Bullet, and Centennial Gun Store. But I don't have any experience with any of them and don't know what would suit us best.
What I'm looking for:
A good selection of handguns. Ideally a good combination of Glocks in 9mm and .40S&W, in a mixture of full-size, compact, and sub-compact. Would also like to show her a Kahr, S&W M&P Shield, and maybe even a Walther PPS. A full-size 1911 for me to play with would be a bonus.
A general atmosphere of safety and responsibility, would prefer not to have to deal with yahoos (behind the counter or on the range).
Ideally a clean facility with good ventilation and sound baffling.
"Pay once, rent many" is a big plus since she may want to try more than one model.
What do you all recommend? Does any one area shop stand out above the others?
Thanks!

Rocky Mountain Sooters Supply up in Ft collins. They have a pretty big selection to choose from.
BluCore is a good bet, Firing Line is as well... a couple of our members here work at FL and you'd have to try really hard to have a bad experience with either place. BluCore has quite a selection of pistols to rent and varying calibers, I have never rented or seen the line up at FL, but based on my experience shooting there I recommend them equally as well as BC. Hadn't thought about heading North. That is definitely an option; we both used to live in Fort Collins. I'll take a look at their website.

Oh, oh. Can I be the one to pick on the new guy for not using the search feature or that JMs job?

I thought Jim and HBAR pretty much tag team on these?

Well, I did do a search and found some other links and reviews. But they didn't address my questions about professionalism and range condition (ventilation, baffling). Her experience so far has all been positive and I'd like to keep it that way (at least until she is hooked on the hobby).
Then again, I guess getting beat up on is what every new guy deserves, so beat away!

Ventilation at both BluCore and Firing Line is good... not perfect- you'd have to go outdoors for that- but both really good. Professionalism at both locations is spot on.

I know they have a good selection of rental guns but I'm not sure about their rental policy. I recommended calling and asking before driving all the way up there.
If you are headed to RMSS, this might be of use too..

Thanks! I think I've made up my mind. Going up to Fort Collins has the benefit that we can combine it with visiting some friends.

I do not recommend the Shootist. Their ventilation system is terrible and the whole place reminds me of a run-down flea market. Their selection of rentals is small and neglected to the point of malfunction.
Blucore is probably your best bet. If you walk in there with your own weapon make sure it's in a case and not on your hip.
Firing Line is decent enough, but their selection of rentals is also pretty small and the wait time to get on their range is always long.

Just a thought but if any of them have good female staff, it may also help to get another woman's perspective for her.
I don't know if any of the forementioned places do, but it may help her feel more comfortable and make a better decision for her.
Agree on ventilation at the Shootist but the one positive they have (or at least had) is they charge per lane per day not per person per hour.

My bad. I thought they were repost police. Kinda the same thing though.
On topic BluCore is your spot. They are friendly to everyone especially for ladies. Tuesday night is ladies night so no range fees.
They also have a great selection of rentals and allow you to change guns as much as you want for the same fee.
Thanks everybody.
It sounds like BluCore or Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply are most likely a good fit for what I am looking for. I was going to say RMSS for sure, but I see that they are closed Sundays. Depending on when we can line up a babysitter that might be the only day of the week I can take her.
(I also received some IMs with other options I haven't ruled out yet).
I appreciate your answers!
Cherry Creek Shooting Center has a good selection, BlueCore is good as well.

I do not recommend the Shootist. Their ventilation system is terrible
That's painting The Shootist in a more favorable light than it deserves.
I strongly recommend Front Range Gun Club (http://www.thefrgc.com) in Loveland. Speaking as a (fairly new) female shooter, I've always felt very welcomed there. There are tons of other female shooters, too. Rocky Mountain Shooter Supply focuses more on their store rather than their range; it's rather outdated, the ventilation is crummy, and the target movement system is very limited.

I know that they have Glocks and Kahrs, and possibly the Walther. They have a 1911 as well. Here's the rental list - they actually have more than this. http://www.thefrgc.com/GunRentals.aspx

They're very professional there and they're extremely safety conscious. Yahoos are promptly dealt with.

This is the cleanest, most well ventilated range I've been to. No smoke smell whatsoever. RMSS is kind of bad as far as smell goes.
"Pay once, rent many" is a big plus since she may want to try more than one model
I think they pay by the rental, but if you express an interest in purchasing through them they may be able to work something out.
BTW, I just noticed that Front Range Gun Club requires that non-member renters be sponsored by a member - let me know and we'd be happy to sponsor you. :)

Oh boy, more to think about. Maybe I'll give them a call to see what rentals they have available. Thanks!

Please recommend a place to rent firearms with my wife.
I'm not sure that any of the mentioned places will take a wife for a firearms rental, but it's worth a shot.
Then again, I guess getting beat up on is what every new guy deserves, so beat away!
This is just screaming "BEAT ME!" for a title...IMHO.

I'm alway down to shoot. Let me know and I can bring several 9s,22 or 45s to the party.
I was at The Centennial Gun Store today and rented a Glock, S&W M&P,and Springfield XDM all in .40 cal. Nice place!

Front range gun club is members only, they will let you shoot there one time to see if you want to join. RMSS in ft fun is nice ventelation was fine the other week when I took my father in law to shoot. There selection of rentals is pretty good and they have female employees. There employees attiudes are hit and miss. Rental fee is 10$ and you have to buy there ammo. Doubble up on ear pro all indoor ranges are loud.

Firing Line has Ladies DAY. On Mondays, Ladies do not pay a range fee. It is very popular so there can be a wait. FL has Glocks, Springfields, S&W, Sig, Beretta, Ruger, Kahr. 9s, 40s, 45s and 357s and 22s. $10 rentals, if you're cool 2 rentals per fee (one at a time), but that's unofficial.
