Starting this week, Chicago police are changing their responses to 911 calls. They’ll no longer come right away to reports of things like criminal damage to property, vehicle thefts, garage burglaries, or other crimes in which the suspect is no longer on the scene, and the victim isn’t in immediate danger.

This is what I worry about, all available police are out with geiger counters because terrorists are setting off small nuclear weapons in large US cities. Then the criminals go on looting rampages, taking whatever they want. This is why I have counter-assault rifles, so I don't get assaulted by thugs. I wish the .gov would concentrate more on daily preparations & operations and less on legislation. The purpose of the government is to protect the people, they think simply passing a law will protect us and deter criminals and terrorists. For Gods sake let the people protect themselves. Just today the North Korean government released a video of a US city burning while some Korean is flying overhead in a North Korean space shuttle. I know it is just propaganda...

Exactly! I saw that video too- More proof though to not worry about NK... if that's the best quality video their government can come up with then I wonder how terrible the rest of their technology is. "More government = less freedom."

They will eventually figure out that cops cannot be everywhere and will then start pushing that they need to install cameras everywhere like Great Britain. And we have seen how well that has worked out...still crime everywhere.
Southside of Chicago already has cameras everywhere.. The interesting thing though is that they are required to have flashing lights on them kind of like a cop car so that you know it's a "police" camera. I am guessing most of the crime happens right around the corner.

As far as the linked article goes, I don't necessarily disagree with the rationale.. Right now Chicago has a huge problem with murder and violence. If they can focus on getting these guys off the street and in jail we can all go back to our regular jobs one day.

Well, of course this will bring crime down. If nobody takes the report, then the incident doesn't become part of any statistics.
Chicago, BTW, hired a chief from NYCPD: one of the jackwads who implemented CompStat. They've been fudging their stats for years now, but making the Streetlamp Assassin their chief does not signal an intent towards accuracy going forward.

Sorry, what? How does an officer on the street prevent a shooting? Were there no officers "on the streets" in Aurora? Littleton? What about Virginia Tech?

Oh by the way, who tracks such statistics as "shootings prevented by police being on the streets?" That's what's great about a bullshit statistic. It's like "jobs saved" from the great O'Bamster....
