I have 1K rounds of lose 5.56 sitting in an ammo can in VA. I need to ship it here. How do I go about that? Walk it into a UPS store and have them box it?

Box it. Stick an ORM sticker on it. Ship it. Enjoy.

That would probably work. I know that you have to use the HazMat shipping label of "ORM-D", and it can either be a blue sticker style (you probably have to pay for) or written on the box in large letters (at least 1" letters should be sufficient).

For the record though, I have never shipped ammo myself. I have only received ammo from online purchases and know about the ORM-D requirement that way.

If a UPS Store balks, you may have to go to the UPS service center.

Does the USPS have a weight limit? It seems like this would be too heavy for them to transport. You cannot ship ammunition via USPS.

This. Ship via UPS or Fedex. However you will need to send from one of their distribution centers and not the "UPS Store"

You can Google Image "ORM-D" print that and attach it to the box. UPS recommended this. Then take it to the UPS service center for shipping.

I just shipped a box of ammo last week at a FedEx location. I hand-wrote "ORM-D" with a black Sharpie and it's now on the way to NC. It only weighed 4.3 lbs and it cost $18 to ship.

Oops I misread USPS, you are correct. Nothing flamable can go in the USPS system. Can't even send hand disinfectant to the troop becasue it contains alcohol.

UPS Store will not ship it. Go online to UPS.com and set up a shipment there and print out the shipping label, then drop it off at a UPS store or your local UPS hub. Put ORMD stickers on the box.

The ammo can is about 30 lbs. So I just need to find a box that it will fit in?

Yep, or just wrap the ammo can in cardboard and tape.

I like the way you're thinking.

UPS will pick it up too if the hub is far from you. I think they charged me an extra $5 to do this.

They are shipping from Fairfax, VA. There are plenty of hubs around.

FedEx would NOT let me ship front their hub a few weeks ago. Had to have it picked up at the house. Ymmv.
