A Manhattan millionaire faces three years in jail for drawing an unlicensed gun on a burglar inside his home.

George Bardwil (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/george-bardwil/), who owns linen company Bardwil Home (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/bardwil-home/), was in his E Street apartment when an intruder came into his home in January, The Daily Mail reports.
Mr. Bardwil (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/george-bardwil/), 60, threatened the intruder with a loaded .40 cal Sig Sauer. The man fled and Mr. Bardwil (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/george-bardwil/) called the police.
After showing the cops footage from his home surveillance cameras, they arrested him under suspicions of owning an illegal firearm.
The businessman’s lawyer, Michael Bachner, told the New York Post that the gun is legally registered to the defendant’s bodyguard.
“There’s no dispute that George (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/george-bardwil/) was being burglarized,” Mr. Bachner said. “George (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/george-bardwil/) had been the victim of multiple burglaries, and the DA’s office concedes that it was used in self defense.”

Mr. Bardwil has a Checkered past of beating his ex wife a girlfriend almost to the point of death and then a Maid. Look him up on Google before attempting to make him out to be the citizen of the year.

Maybe. But that doesn't excuse a burglary or stupid laws that don't allow you to defend yourself.

Won't be long til someone in CO will call the police in a similar situation then get issued a summons or arrested by the police for having an illegal magazine.

I don't care if you are Charles Manson. You still have a right to defend yourself.

I am surprised this hasn't happened more, maybe it's just hasn't been long enough time for the real numbers start to show.

I don't know how his arrests equated to convictions for this guy, but this really may just be an end around to get him on something they think will stick.

This sounds just like the story about the man in the UK who used an old (illegal) shotgun to shoot one of two burglars in his home, outside his bedroom door, in the middle of the night. That homeowner is serving life in prison for not letting a burglar bash his skull in with a crowbar.

A long time ago, when a man had paid his debt to society (prison) for a serious crime and then was released to resume his life, his rights were once again his own. Now, we have a system that makes it so that after a person has "paid their debt"; they are punished for the rest of their life. Doesn't really make someone want to change, or better themselves. No real motivation to keep out of trouble. Especially when the real criminals get away with so much thanks to the progressive's changes to the system. So this guy had issues in the past, which caused him to lose the right to own a firearm. Even if he didn't serve time, he's lost rights. I get the whole domestic violence thing; but the whole deal about misdemeanor domestic violence being a disqualifier was just another bandaid like the "Assault Weapon" ban, or the "Hi Cap Mag" man. And its purpose was the same - to make more people unable to own guns.

This guy (homeowner) may have previously done bad things, but this particular act was not one of them.

I agree with that, but I would also counter that the conservative "Get Tough on Crime" stuff has just as much to do with people being screwed for life. Both sides are a pile of crap on this. I think that once a person has served time, they should not face discrimination. Only exception is murder, rape and pedophilia. But now a days, they will give you a felony for everything. Our system is beyond broke that way.
