How do you get your brass back? [Flower]

Trust me I left with what I came with and some other specific head-stamps and calibers I was looking for after I sorted through a bag of brass I gathered up from the cement in front of the firing line. What I was shooting was Berdan primed milsurp so I will not be reloading it.

You know it is all about personal preference how much interaction you want with staff and much of that can be based on experience level and your interpersonal social skills, in my case I am all about leave me the hell alone don't offer advice and quit touching my stuff. As you can imagine I do not come off as a social butterfly at times. I really do not need to hear about letting my weapon cool before casing it or take kindly to unsolicited interaction (a major fault of mine as I come off the wrong way at times to those that do not know me). I know they have to interact with everyone there as if they were the lowest common denominator from a safety standpoint (I dislike some of their safety practices and the manner in which they implement them). The seated only shooting there really makes me dislike the place as well. I can not complain though I have a membership out at CRC and just was not up for the drive today.

I agree with almost everything you said there. The only time I went there I rolled in with a couple of my buddies, all of us experienced shooter (competition and otherwise) and about $10k in hardware only to be treated by the range master like an idiotic teenager. He was hoverining around jumping on us for stupid crap until I basically could no longer hold it in and told him to piss off. I know they must deal with a lot of idiots there, but don't treat me like one until I do something to deserve it. For all of their faults the old range master at Dragonman was cool as could be, and only would offer advice if asked. He and I would also have impromptu shooting matches when he was training for Camp Perry if it was slow.

i hate going to places like the cherry creek unfun center . every state has a few of them and they all have a few busybodies that wont stay out of other peoples business .
most range trips for me
1. no i dont need you to tell me how to shoot
2. no i dont need a scope for 250 yards
3. no you cant touch my guns
4. no i didnt realize that in real world shooting they require 3 seconds between shots , guess ill be leaving now

I've had mixed experiences at both CC and FL. Just depends on the mood of the RSO I guess. I don't need someone hovering over me, or yelling because I double tapped. I almost got kicked out of CC for that a few weeks after I moved here and I had my AK. At FL I got treated like a 12 year old and laughed at when I told them I know how to handle a pistol given my 7 years of military experience and that I took the battalion armorer's course. I still go there to see what they have in stock and if sneakerd posts a deal on something I need. But I haven't shot there since that, and I go to CC still sometimes since I'm less than 2 miles away.

Cool video, but I couldn't tolerate that environment. Never even been there, found out I had to pay twice before I could even shoot, then have to deal with crowds and Range Nazis? Fuck that.

I have had the opposite experience at Cherry Creek. The RO's leave me alone for the most part, aside from uncasing and performing their required little safety speech. As one of those who tend to be a touch anti-social and just come out, do my thing, and leave, I appreciate that they really tend to ignore me.
I have had them:
Offer to help me save my brass once they realize or asked that I reload, and I mean they sweep it right over to my station, which is nice because I get to shoot more and chase brass less.
Notify me when a pistol lane became open while I was on the rifle side.
Leave me in peace to shoot.

In return I have:
Been respectful of their job, they get to deal with a lot of chuckleheads.
Made sure that I leave my rifle/shotgun/pistol locked back and safed during target change.
Gave them plenty of advanced notice when I wanted to switch over from rifle to pistol
Kept my station clean and swept out other folks spent steel or crap casings.

There are things that are a tick frustrating like the one second delay between shots, and I am typically next to some chucklehead who is completely new to shooting and concerns me.

The one incident I had was when I was showing Kwando my liteweight AR and we were corrected for not handling it in the window muzzle downrange. Totally our bad.

Oh, and yeah it can be loud there, it is after all a public place and can get crowded. Thank God we arent doing something loud and distracting like shooting firearms...

Not to beat a dead horse, but I ask folks to keep in mind that we have had almost a total employee turn-over in the last year, think I could safely bet that Dave's experience was "long?" ago. We try really hard NOT to be range nazi's. As a matter of fact, no one at FL actually stands on/in the range monitoring. We leave people alone for the most part, only stepping in when we happen to hear rapid firing or see stupid stuff going on out there. Then the "correction" is almost always very light-hearted and not overbearing, unless the shooter is kind of a dick.

I'll take ear plugs for a $1000 Alex, actually it was relatively quiet there compared to some of their busy season days. If I was the social type I would have interrupted a conversation or two to interject my opinion on a wide array of subjects.

I live within a block of the Silver Bullet in Wheat Ridge, I have only shot there twice in the last 8 years.

this is what I dislike the most...It's loud, and not real friendly to big calibers...for either pistol or rifle...at FL, you about knock yourself out with a 44mag, only took me once to learn my lesson there...

But support local business if you have no where else to shoot...

Anytime people are shooting the big caliber handguns at FL, the boom can be heard from the front door (almost). Kind of ruins the experience for others on the range, imho. I'm sure it's the same at other indoor ranges.

I live a Block north of Silver Bulet and I can hear the range on most nights. Their sound insulation is lacking to say the least add that to the fact their backstop was upgraded to allow for large rifle calibers. What a joy it must be to be teaching your boy how to shoot his new .22 when in the lane next to you some guy decides to bring in his 16 inch .308 to shoot at 25 yards in a small enclosed space.

I have had them:
Offer to help me save my brass
Depends on the range employee his exact words to me "we have to sweep it up people have a tendency to slip and fall on it"

Notify me when a pistol lane became open while I was on the rifle side.
If you have signed up for both I would suspect that to be a necessity

Leave me in peace to shoot.
Depends on the day, the range employee, and your actions

There are things that are a tick frustrating like the one second delay between shots.
I would so want to have a shot timer with me and show it "It says 1.2 seconds here what's your problem" as when people were clearly waiting a second they came over to tell people "that's a real second people not a New York second" If you are shooting faster that 3 or 4 seconds they will get on you quick.

Oh, and yeah it can be loud there, it is after all a public place and can get crowded.
Hence the acknowledgement of their need for some of their methodology

Thank God we aren't doing something loud and distracting like shooting firearms...
I sense your sarcasm and return it to you in a sarcastic manner sir.

Yeah, last time I was at FL to shoot was over 2 years ago. Just about any indoor range can get uncomfortably loud if the guy next to you is shooting a .44 mag or .500 SW. Usually if I go to CC it's because I'm bringing multiple firearms and will usually hit at least the pistol and rifle lines and might take a shotgun to pattern for turkey rounds or buckshot.

The picture below is a perfect example as to why some people quickly get in trouble at Cherry Creek. I shot at this range for years and it was considered absolutely unsafe to uncase a firearm at the line. You were expected to uncase behind the line and bring an unloaded weapon up to the line in a safe manner. Having something ingrained into your rage habits can lead to a problem if you did not clearly hear, read, or understand Cherry Creeks rules on the subject. I prefer the uncase behind the line approach and think it is silly that Cherry Creek also expects you to wait til a range officer is present at your position before doing so.

I would like to add that I also preferred the "Shooters only on the firing line approach" as it prevented a lot of problems that Cherry Creek is trying to avoid with their requirements and led to a more serious environment in which to concentrate on your own shooting skills and safety.

Ahhhh......BLGC, this is the life! I was actually dialing in my pellet rifle here. I'm usually at one of the 100 yd. ranges, and prefer to put my target stand right up close to the berm.

All excellent reasons why I have not, nor will I ever, frequent an indoor range. An outdoor gun club, possibly. But I get my shooting done in the national forest, and I shoot however I feel that day. Range nazis would ruin the experience for me.

It's my own fault, I just did not want to drive out to CRC today. I need to spend the summer scouting the mountains for a spot to shoot long range at gongs. Most people that know of good spots are understandably unwilling to share their knowledge of such spots. (Doesn't help that I have not been sociable enough to get to know a lot of other shooters with similar interest)

The fact that most organized events around the State are almost invariably on Saturdays does little to help as well (I have Sunday, Monday, Tuesday off).

I hate Cherry Creeks rifle and pistol line. There is always a RO with a Napoleon complex and if you ever show someone in your group how to improve their shooting the RO's zero in on you like a chicken hawk and bust your balls on everything. Also why they closed down Jordan rd is beyond me. The kids that RO the shotgun side of things are always nice though.

CC is what it is. I got called for shooting too fast, then one of the other RO's corrected him that it was the guy a couple stalls down. No apollogy or 'sorry man'. It is close to where I live. If the family come into town and wants to shoot I may go back but it is not a first choice. It is filled with Urban shooters just learning. If you want a Shooter Nirvana.... Whittington. Hands down. Every type of shooting you can imagine, professional setup, great people. Most times I had million dollar ranges completly to myself...... I think I just popped wood againthinking about it!!

The only complaint I ever had at CC was after the cease fire when they walk by your rifles in the racks to make sure the action is open and empty. The RO told me I put the rifle in the wrong position for him to see the open chamber. My response was "really" and he got into a hissy fit until I stopped him with "it's a lefty action". He left me alone the rest of the day. [facepalm]

I haven't been to CC shooting range since it was integrated with Cherry Creek State Park.
Trap and Sporting Clay range was okay. They use to check of loads were < 1200ft/s.

I had to allocate my concentration on RO's almost as much as my target at a rifle/pistol range. :D

In defense of the RO's at Cherry Creek, as a public range, they have to assume everyone on the line is an idiot until proven otherwise.
Batteriesnare Hangs there, or used to, and put up a good word. Once the guys got to know me, no one got stupid.
Their house, their liability, their rules. they are playing to the lowest common denominator as a safety mechanism.

Hell, I've been treated worse as a guest to a private range. Not naming Names... but I was yelled at for someone else uncasing their (unloaded) weapon while a guy was goofing off down range.

I used to teach hunter education, and I spoke to a lot of beginning gun owners and beginning hunters. Cherry Creek has done a lot to drive people away from the shooting and hunting sports, based on how people related their experiences at the range there to me. I can't tell you how many people contrasted how I treated them during the live fire exercises to how they were treated at their first visit to CC.

And I've spent a lot of time as a volunteer range officer at my local club, and at USPSA events over the years (CRO cert with NROI).

I don't mind the range so much if you know what you are getting when you go there. I have found it is pretty useful for setting up a 100yd zero with a lead sled. If you want to do anything other than put lead on paper at 50 or 100 yds rifle, or 13 yds pistol, go somewhere else.

I liked it for what it is, but have absolutely no illusion that it is anything else. There are chuckleheads there all the time that don't know how to sight in their optics, think that 100yd shot with a rifle is a big deal, and to date my personal favorite were freaked out that I was putting a .22LR in a 4 inch circle at 100 yds with iron sights.

If you want to run any sort of speed or dynamic drills find somewhere else.

There was in fact one individual there that had a hunting rifle without iron sights, scope base mounted and no optic mounted to the base yet there he was shooting away til the staff realized it. That's about when I left.

Yeah, it's like that at BluCore when somebody is shooting 50bmg in their indoor rifle range
