The continued pussification of the American male

Just thought I'd share a funny story.

So, yesterday the wife and I were heading south on I-25 and traffic was horrible. Well, turns out there was an accident on the other side of the interstate and our side was backed up from everybody slowing down to check it out.

Anyhow, about the time traffic should have been picking speed, this nimrod in front of me starts slowing down and cranking his neck back around to look at the accident. Whatever. I passed him.

For some reason, apparently me passing his dumb ass must have upset him because as I was getting back into the lane ahead of him I saw him give me the "you're number one" sign in my rear view mirror.

Always happy to play along, I rolled down the drivers window, stuck my hand out, and let him know the feeling was mutual.

His reply (again, in my rear view mirror) was to tell me yet again what he thought of me through the use of sign language.

So, eventually, I get over one lane to the right in preparation for making an exit. At this time, his vehicle gains speed and begins to come up on my left side.

Still having the window down, I start giving him the old evil eye as he pulls along side of me. I'm fully expecting the same evil stare back, or maybe another "you're number one" sign or some profanity at least.

Nope. Nothing.

The pussy wouldn't even look my direction. Just kept driving right by.

I was a bit disappointed.

The real question is, why do people think it's okay to behave differently while behind the wheel?

Would he have flipped you off in the supermarket if you passed his cart with yours, because he was gawking at the pork and beans on the top shelf?

No.

Maybe he picked up on the vibe he could get shot if he escalated and decided to drop it and move on with life.

Ray, WE(the members of this forum) are not intimidated by an orange colored middle finger.
The general public apparently is however.

"Mommy, there's a scary looking man in that truck and his fingers are orange..."
"Don't look honey and he won't scare you, he probably has ghonaherpesyphilaids and that's why his fingers were orange..."

You jump in front of me in the checkout line expect to hear something. More like a "hey, what the hell?" than a "You are #1" but talking car to car is difficult. :)
Driving is mostly anonymous much like the internet. What is considered polite breaks down when consequences vanish.
As an aside, can I have my self driving car already. Driving sucks.

Cutting in line is an entirely different subject.

But it can be equated to driving as well.

When someone flips me off when driving I usually laugh and wave-seems to piss them of more than a return flip off. [Coffee]
