Won a strop last week on the ESEE forum. I've never used one before and was amazed at results. Next level of hand sharpening for me.

I use a sharpening steel on all my kitchen knives before using. This seems to keep them sharp and I avoid having to bring a knife back from being dull.Quote:

DFBrews, the Edge Pro is an excellent sharpener, been using it for 15yrs. Maybe Delfuego will come along. Sharpened a vegetable cleaver for him, he took a bit of the tip of his finger off!!!
For my Straight Razors, I start with a freshly lapped Norton 6000/8000 water stone on the 8000 side. (10 passes)
Then I polish the edge up (10 passes) with the Spyderco Ultra fine bench stone.
Then strop 40 passes with a good leather strop.
On the linen side I put some Green Stropping compound.
That gets me to a shave ready edge :-)

I put this in the photo thread "post your last purchase". This is one I just got. I also have a matching one with ebony wood scales that shaves real nice. I have a DOVO Mahmut and a beautiful Dovo Silver Steel that my wife bought me. I strop these before each use :-)
