Assloads of crowds, assloads of traffic, parking way the hell away and having to take a shuttle bus. Went there to see the B-29 Fifi, couldn't even get within a mile. Made the drive to CO Springs the next weekend, parked about 200 feet from the plane. No crowd, no traffic, no bullshit. Good times vs bad times.Quote:

I love the sound of those multi-engine radials.
I remember about 10 years ago I was working in the yard at our Englewood home and I heard that unmistakable "warbling" sound of a multi-rotary engine aircraft - a sound that was familiar from every WWII movie or documentary I'd ever seen. And I thought "that CAN'T be - there aren't planes like that anymore!" So then I looked up and there was a B-17 flying right over our house.
Turns out it was "Aluminum Overcast" at a local air show. Very cool.
I sometimes do volunteer work with a group that cleans up neighborhoods. One weekend there was a B-17 in town selling rides. I was with a group that had a WWII-aged gent with us. I heard the bird in the air and saw it coming our way, and nudged the old gent and asked him "when was the last time you saw a B-17 flying?", and pointed at it. The look on his face was priceless!Quote:
