Have a car due for renewal in March, but it is currently non functional and not financially workable to repair for a while. The renewal requires an emissions test. Do they have any form of a non drive-able registration .

Why not just wait until it is driveable again? The max fine for a lapse is $100. Will the hassle of working with DMV to find some sort of registration (that may not exist) be worth more than $100 maximum?
I am not opposed to that and in truth that is likely what will happen, I just am curious if such an animal exist.. since the state treats it as an ownership tax instead of a true usage registration.Quote:

IIRC, There is some "de-registering" procedure that makes it in a "title only" status with no penalties when you're ready to register again.
ETA: after a quick search, it appears the Demoncratic CO legislature may have removed that option... I only see a "parts only" title option so you can pay them tax... what bovine scatology

Someone mentioned that the max fine is $100 for late registration. I know from experience that if you are a couple months late they make you pay that two months of back registration. (As well they should, no free rides).
However, I have a collectable/specialty vehicle that was last registered in 2008 and has not been driven since, but instead parked on jack stands for mechanical reasons. Does anyone know if they are going to try to make me pay 10 years of back registration (plus a $100 max late fee) on this fine automobile when I walk into the DMV once it is back together?
