IMO breaching the Capitol was a very small demonstration to our dear leaders that they aren't as safe in their crystal palaces as they think. A reminder that the People are still here and that the government only gives the appearance of being in control as long as the people allow it to.
I also think our dear leaders missed those points. They're that out of touch.
They are very lucky those people basically mobbed the Capitol in the heat of the moment and without plans to actually do anything more. Plenty of examples in history of the people taking over government buildings and not being so kind as to let the government officials leave.
I mentioned the Worcester Revolt in my earlier post. Something around 5,000 men showed up to pressure about 20 Tory officials to quit. One very interesting part of that situation is the 5,000 militiamen all decided to leave their long guns outside of town...they showed up unarmed to ensure things didn't get TOO out of control. The people in DC were unarmed too but still managed to put some pressure on the government without getting too out of control.
Only a few months after the Worcester Revolt, a shot was heard round the world. Things happen in stages. Who knows what our next stage will be but the people aren't happy and aren't likely to cool off anytime soon.
