What little snow we got had melted and re-froze overnight, turning the driveway and sidewalks into solid sheets of 1" thick ice. The whole neighborhood is like an ice rink. I had to break out the heavy duty ice scraper to chip it off my steps. Watched the neighbors attempt to shovel for about 30 seconds, then quit. Also watched folks unable to get traction on their nearly flat driveways. My truck tires appear to be frozen into about six inches of ice at the curb line, and there really isn't any place I need to be today, so I plan to let nature melt it out for me. Does make me realize that if I needed to go anywhere this morning, I would have needed chains or cables to get out of the secondary streets. I know next to nothing about either, so if anybody has some recommendations on which ones are good, I'd be glad to take them.
