As you are a direct relative, they shouldn't have any trouble getting you his DD214, which will show duty stations, awards, ribbons, field and so on. The Military archives section is tremendously understaffed, so it may be a bit of a wait to receive the information (a couple of weeks, usually) but they are good people working there. You request should be processed pretty quickly.
