I doubt that it could fly Mach 5 at low altitudes. Due to the thicker air at low altitudes, the skin of this missile might heat up to its melting point. IIRC, the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane could fly at approximately Mach 3 at 60,000 feet and above. Even up there, its skin got very hot. I would imagine that there?s a trade-off between wanting as little atmosphere as possible while still having enough air to power the engines. I want to see some videos of this just to piece it together in my mind.

Sonic booms actually decrease as speeds go up.

I think that the Russian and Chinese hypersonic missiles use rocket engines instead of jet engines.
